Re: MMe, iDisk & Doc2Go-Worth the money?

Sorry. I guess I wasn't as clear as I should have been more clear.

What happens is that there are times when I have to edit documents, especially excel spreadsheets when I'm away from my desk. It would be great if I could then have the edited doc already available at my desk or available for anyone who is sharing that doc.

Right now, the docs are only read-only when I view them in D2G.

Is that clearer?

Thanks,

Jean

I don't think that is possible with Docs 2 Go. To the best of my
knowledge, Docs 2 Go does not cloud-sync. Meaning that you would have
to be in direct WiFi range (ie, same local network) with D2G running
on the host computer and then manually sync. This may work if you are
in, say, the same office space but not if you're across town.

I didn't know that D2G has a viewer-only version.

> Is that clearer?

You are actually asking two questions: Editing on the handheld, and
remote syncing.

The first Docs 2 Go can do and does it very well. If the version you
have does not edit and you want to edit, it is a worthwhile purchase.

However, if you're also looking to be able to sync it while not local
to your desk, then this won't work and you would need something more
akin to Google Docs, which stores your documents in the cloud and is
thus accessible from anywhere. Evaluate your security and privacy
needs accordingly.

Latest version of Docs 2 Go has Google Dox, Box.net, Dropbox, iDisk, Public
iDisk, and SugarSync support for "cloud" documents...

Good to know. Then what the OP wants will work with Docs 2 Go and
iDisk. Whether it's worth it, that's up to her(?) wallet. :)

You can upgrade to D2G to one that will allow you to modify a spreadsheet, but it will not remotely update it to a server.

That takes something like Dropbox or MobileMe.

Look at QuickOffice, so you don't get orphaned by D2G, but you will need something else to update to a server others can access.

Does that mean I need to go to "Photos" before I sync? Do I check something special? Sorry if this sounds dumb, but iPhoto gives me fits -- funny since I manage to get around in Photoshop.

Photos taken on the phone are not synced by iTunes. You import them with an
imagephoto app. You can use Image Capture if you don't like iPhoto. I assume
Photoshop can also import from the phone?

No, use what ever software you wish to move your photos to your computer, iTunes does not sync photos.

I was surprised how little I use. OK, it's just casual stuff (looking stuff
up in the pub, that sort of thing), but surprising all the same. Sent 148
MB, Received 358 MB, since I got the phone last July.

Short of movies/podcasts, streaming radio/music/tv I don't see how
anybody can use much data bandwidth, the screen is way too small for any
practical surfing, especially anything requiring the keyboard function.
I find even the simplest things requiring zooming in and 'flicking' the
screen about to read anything. I also think its absurd to have to pay
extra for tethering just to use the same data bandwidth I'm already
paying for. Its also next to impossible to use when AT&T doesn't have
usable signal.

I use between 3-5GB per month over the past year on my iPhone according to
the "Usage Chart" on from ATT.com and on my Verizon Droid, it uses quite a
bit more data per month, minimum was 4GB and max was almost 7GB (no overage
charges) but I have also used Droid to tether iPhone and iPad and download
files that were over 20MB (blocked over 3G download by iPhone).

Netflix problem

Hi all,

I can't seem to watch Netflix over 3G. Works fine when connected to a wireless network, but when I try watching over 3G I can't get a movie to start. It starts loading then jumps back to the main netflix screen. Worked in the past. Deleted and redownloaded the app. No luck.

Can anyone else get it to work ove 3G right now?

Using an iPhone 4.

Thanks, Pete

Interesting article, tests mobile hotspots like MiFi and Overdrive,

though they do mention an earlier test comparing the Overdrive 4G to

I actually like the black iPhone better. If they'd left the front screen black and the back glass as white, that's cool. I'm able to see the screen better with a dark surround.

Let's just be honest, Apple: white stuff is impossible to manufacture.
In fact, scientists have yet to prove that white even exists, so we're
not sure why you're bothering to try to make a phone out of it! That's
right: after a missed availability date in July and another delay after
that, Cupertino has once again pushed back the manufacture of the
palest iPhone 4 -- this time clear into spring of 2011. It won't say
why, but in all likelihood, they're still dealing with the same
manufacturing woes they've had from the start. By the time mid-2011
rolls around, it seems probable that the release will be butting up
against news of the iPhone 4's successor -- or at the very least, a
CDMA version of the phone -- so it'll be fascinating to see how this
timeline unfolds. In the meantime, yeah... might want to give up the
wait and go for black.
