Odd email behavior

I have a 3gs with OS 4.0.1 and it has worked flawlessly since I bought it. Recently, I've noticed the following.
I have two email accounts on it, Exchange and Me.com. About half of the time, when I go to the Mail app and click the update icon, it spins, then stops without downloading the mail. I repeat this process and get the same result.
However, if I then switch to the other account, the mail either downloads immediately or downloads after clicking the icon.
Returning to the original account, the mail downloads correctly.
Again, half of the time things work as they should. Simply entering mail it, it updates or the clicking the icon works.
When I have this situation, I need only go to the other account, it works, then come back to the first.
Very strange.
Any suggestions?
David

I don't have an answer for you, but which one is having problems, the Exchange account?

No, the me.com account. It's very odd when computers/phones don't operate consistently. At least half of the time, the me.com email downloads fine.
I have shut the phone down, both power off with the red swipe and holding the buttons down longer for a full reset. Doesn't seem to have resolved this. It's been going on for several weeks.
Very strange that all I need to do is switch to the Exchange account, then back to the me.com account and the mail downloads as it should. I can click on the icon for the me.com account five times, and have it try five times, get the 'updating' message, yet the updated time doesn't change and the mail doesn't download. Switch to Exchange and back and voila it works as it should.

Missing Settings Items
Posted by: "emorockstarr" emorockstarr@yahoo.com emorockstarr

Good Morning all,
Well, I am hoping that someone out there will be able to help me solve this problem. Ok, here's the deal. I have a 3g iphone and have set up 4 email accounts under settings, no problems. Yesterday I tapped the mail app. and saw the 4 accounts that I had set up.
When I went under settings to change the password on one of them, "mail" "calendar" and "contacts" are no longer under settings, therefore I cannot add or delete email accounts. The only things under settings now are airplane mode, wifi, notifications, carrier, sounds, brightness, wallpaper, general, messages, ipod, store and then the apps i have on my phone
Does anyone know how this may have happened and how I can correct it?
thanks
Stanton

Usually when something crazy like that happens, a reboot fixes it.

Is your mail app in some folder on your iphone? If so bring it out on the home page and see if that helps, after a reboot.

I'm using different cables in all locations. In my car, it's the white cable that came with the phone (or with an older iPod, maybe). The other cables are aftermarket cables picked up from Radio Shack.

Take the known good cable from the car and try it where you are having the problem, and try the questionable one in the car. See if the problem moves, eliminate the cable from equation.
You said constant, but is it really occasionally? This could be interference caused by the cell phone. Mine is set for a minimum apps to access Push data and with some radios I hear static about every 15-20 minutes.

It sounds like a ground loop to me. Redundant ground connection - somewhere. Are you using a car charger as well? If so, unplug the charger and see if the problem goes away.

Thank you, that is exactly where I was going with my question about
the cables.

If it were the phone itself, the GSM interference would happen
regardless of whether the phone was plugged into something or not.
That happens with mere proximity to unshielded speakers.
I'm guessing that the phone is almost always plugged in when in the
car (that's what I was doing when I had one and do now with my
iTouch), but is it always plugged in when near those other stereos?
If not, then if the same noise happens while not attached, that will
eliminate the cabling.
Another question for the OP: Before, you said you were using the AUX
input on the stereo, which lead me to assume you are using the
headphone jack of the iPhone, but your answer to the question
indicates that you're using the dock connector which means using a USB
connection. Please clarify which is being used.'
So far as I know, if you're using the dock connector to a USB port,
then it is highly unlikely to be a cabling issue.

Re: Help - iPhone resizes every app change

No, I don't have it on. The 3 fingers don't even do anything anymore
It resizes back to the size it was when I opened the app. It's just weird for it to open and resize exactly to the correct size, there is no change in font or anything.
I'm going to try and take some of the photos and apps off to see if this might have anything to do with having go much on the iPhone and it not being able to handle the load.
Thanks.... Sigrid

Now the screen constantly resizes at each app change and I actually have to move the screen up or down to see the clock when in some apps. No rebooting seems to solve this.
