My Honda Civic has a USB socket where you can plug the iPhone cable into and then it recognizes it as an iPod. Then I can control my music from the car's controls, not on the iPod app where it says something like "Accessory in use" or something.
And it charges the phone. So it's cool.

It has a USB cable, can read anything from a flash/thumb drive to an iPod to
a large external hard drive. My Acura also has a USB cable but I think I
only used it to test as it also has Bluetooth A2DP so as soon as I turn on
the car it pairs with my phone and I can play audio, if I make or receive a
phone call it pauses and lets me answer or decline.
The advantage Ford Sync has is that you can pair multiple devices (up to 8 I
think) so those of us who have two phones or a phone and an iPad and/or
passengers can pair their devices to listen to content, etc.

Calendar vent --

As a former Palm addict, I also tried Pocket Informant, but found it
lacking. The app that does it all is CalenGoo. It was somewhat slow on my 3G
but is blazingly fast on my iPhone 4. It syncs with Google Calendar almost
flawlessly (nothing is perfectly flawless) which means I can use my desktop
for multiple input then immediately copy the info to my iPhone. Likewise,
when I'm at my office and put an appointment into my iPhone, I can sync it
wirelessly to my desktop at my home. It is always up-to-date. I hope it is
as satisfying for you as it has been for my use.

Hey Terry --
I wanted to let you know that I emailed the designer of CalenGoo, and he told me how to make the app sync with the internal calendar (which in turn syncs with iCal) instead of Google Calendars. I'm giving it a try. I haven't figured out Task syncing yet, but we'll see how it goes. Thanks for the suggestion!

Facebook is a disaster

The updated Facebook is a disaster and takes ages to load and refuses to log in even with full wifi coverage. Why do they take one step forward and three steps back? Even on the computer it is a pain to use with the hitherto simple operations now requiring a dozen steps to perform. Perhaps they want people to spend more time on FB.

Hi there,

Are there any cheap or normally priced pre-paid sim cards for an iPhone with a data program (prepaid 3GS internet uses ) ?
Where can I get them?
Going to Naples first.

I just tried phoneview from this site:
http://www.ecamm.com/mac/phonevie w/mod.html
They have a 7 day demo that works to transfer files. It loaded my voicemail and then I was able to select the voicemail that I wanted to copy to my desktop. It copies it to desktop as mp4 file. You would then be able to email this to whoever.
I am using a Mac. Not sure but believe this is good for Macs only. There maybe something similar for PC's.
I have used software made by this company for my isight camera on a Macintosh years ago and find them to be a reliable software developer for some of these type solutions that aren't readily available.
Hopefully the PC users on this site will be able to offer a suggestion for those who are using PCs.

Weather Bug -- now mostly cloudy
Posted by: "jparkerg@yahoo.com" jparkerg@yahoo.com jparkerg

Up until the past couple of days I've been a satisfied user of the Weather Bug app.
(I have several others including TWC loaded in a weather folder but my default *has* been Weather Bug).
No longer.
They have an intrusive ad for Stormchasers on Discovery that plays whenever I attempt to change app views (forecast for another city, conditions, maps, etc).
The fact that it has an especially irritating and loud audio component was the final straw.
I'm willing to pay a nominal fee for a good, clean weather app.
What are you using?

Take the Safari browser to i.wund.com (the Weather Underground), set it the way you like it, press the + sign, and save it to your home page.

Going along with this question, is there a weather app that displays the temperature on the icon(like email shows the number that you have)?

I usually use adobe premiere to load and edit and save it as whatever format
you like.
But if you need only for conversion, then i think ALLOK's mov convertor is
good. I never had problems with 3Gs and now iPhone 4.

Gentelmen,
I had an iPhone 3gs and now have a iPhone 4.
The MOV videos with the iPhone 4, I use OJOsoft Total Video Converter to
convert the videos to AVI using MJPEG conpression.
My Canon camera makes MOV files too. Thou it cam with software that converts
the video to AVI with MJPEG compression. This software is called ZoomBrowser
EX.
The ZoomBrowser EX will not convert the video from either the iPhone 4 or
the iPhone 3GS properly. Missing audio us usually the problem.
I cannot get video from my iPhone 3GS to be coverted properly. Both iPhones
are running 4.1 firmware.
Does anyone have any suggestions?

Sorry for the delayed response.
I've got a 3GS running the latest iOS 4.whatever , and syncing with
Exchange Server 2007 over ActiveSync
(extra fun: I sync my iPhone to my home computer; my home computer is
NOT allowed to access the Exchange Server)
On further experimentation I only experienced the problem when I was
*locked out* of the Exchange Server so I'm going to have to do some
more testing. Need to have some free time at work to play with being
locked out so I can unlock myself; getting unlocked from home is No
Fun.

Yes. Minutes are being used. However, if you set it up where the Google number
is on your 'favorites' list, then no additional minutes are being used. I know I
didn't answer this clearly, but I'm sure someone else will chime in!

I'm off to test whether or not I've properly transferred my google calls to ring

What is the problem? Do you have Google Voice set up with your iPhone
number as one of your numbers? It works fine for me, dial number it rings
phone and connects to other party. Offline mode uses the ,/pause system to
dial through my GV # and place the call.

iTunes 10.0.1 brings Game Center compatibility indicators

Sent to you by Bill Boulware via Google Reader: iTunes 10.0.1 brings
Game Center compatibility indicators via 9 to 5 Mac by Mark Gurman on
9/25/10
Last night Apple updated iTunes to version 10.0.1 and perhaps the most
important new feature is Ping Sidebar. Besides the new Ping features
Apple fixes tons of bugs and added a neat little time saver to the App
Store. For those who are interested in finding out if the app they want
to download is compatible with Game Center, they traditionally would
need to scan the app description or take a look at the featured Game
Center section.
Now, Apple has added Game Center compatibility indicators to Game
Center apps. If you want to find out if the app you're looking to buy
works with Game Center simply take a look at the
upper-right-hand-corner of the iTunes page and if you see the pictured
logo (above) you're good to go. As far as we can see, this feature is
not yet available on the mobile version of the App Store. Thanks,
Benjamin!
Things you can do from here:
- Subscribe to 9 to 5 Mac using Google Reader
- Get started using Google Reader to easily keep up with all your
favorite sites

Hi! Just wanted to let those know who recommended the Jawbone to me awhile back that I got one and absolutely love it! The difference between this and my old one is unbelievable. Thanks for the recommendations.

Re: Mobile Me vs Google

The one feature that attracted me to MobileMe many years ago was the ichat service which allowed members of my family to use video cameras to chat. I have been using the service along with my family for years. We can post blogs using iWeb, sync each others calendars, and publish private gallery to view family photos. We also use the idisk to transfer photos and other files back and forth. It has worked fine for us over many years. Well worth the yearly fee.
