Mysteriously changing features

Posted by: "Morgan Mandel" morgan@morganmandel.com   morganmandel

Sat Oct 30, 2010 10:13 am (PDT)

I had some kind of texting feature I hadn't ordered added to my account a few months ago, and I called and had it removed. It was after I had changed from a card to tethering and expected my bill to be less, so that's how I noticed it. My senior mind has forgotten what it was called.

Makes you wonder if someone over at one of the stores is slipping things in figuring people won't notice. I wonder if they get a commission. I'm such a suspicious person. (g)

Many years ago when Ma Bell broke up, new phone companies and other
related companies started doing things called "Slamming". Recall it was
adding features/charges you hadn't asked for. Small recurring charges
from places you never heard of. It may have returned.

To answer your question the agents in the att stores DO work on commission and they do add features on a lot of times when you start service or do an upgrade with them. These features are usually features where you get a "free trial" of the feature. They usually conveniently "forget" to tell you about adding these and to call in to cancel before the trial ends so you won't be charged. I know this b/c I worked for an att call center and dealt with this on an almost daily basis. But, I never came across a txt msging pkg being added by the agents in the store, but it certainly could happen even though they are supposed to get the customer's permission before adding any features to the account.

It wasn't suggested that you go to a cellular store, it was suggested
you go to the Apple Store. This isn't a cell phone store, it's an
APPLE store. Where you can go and buy Apple products, products made
for Apple items, and talk to Apple tech/customer support in person
about Apple products. The iPhone is just one of the items they carry.

I asked about your proximity to an Apple store, not a "cell phone store".

Sorry to have tried to help.

Even sorrier that you thought my attempt to help was "bs".

Good luck.

I figured it out: I got this email this morning from AT&T. I'm glad I changed my password. Kind of odd that all they ever changed was my texting package but I am glad.

Can an iPhone be synced with two computers?

Posted by: "AnneL" shadow484@comcast.net   alogston

Fri Oct 29, 2010 12:57 pm (PDT)

I have both a desktop and a laptop. Use the laptop frequently when I'm
travelling. Because of this, I make calendar entries in Outlook, notes,
etc. on both computers. Both are authorized with iTunes. I've been all
around Apple's "help" (quotes denote heavy sarcasm on my part) labyrinth,
and I can't seem to find out: Is there any way to be able to sync my iPhone
with both computers?

Thanks,
Anne

No - iPhone (and all iOS Devices) can only be synced with one iTunes
library.

You can keep Outlook in sync via Google or MobileMe though...

The only things that Anne mentioned in her email were calendar and notes. If those are the main things she wants to have in sync on an iPhone and two Macs, if she spent 99 bucks a year for MobileMe, wouldn't that take care of syncing those things without having to go through iTunes?

You can sync between two computers with a couple of issues. Both must be the same operating system. Then one library master file gets copied to the other. If you want the same movies and music to not be deleted the libraries (containing music and videos) must match. Or it can be different it will delete the difference (plus side) fill the phone up at home, the laptop with everything thing else and sync. No messages about difference library

Or, as was previously stated, you can only synchronize with one *library*. So one possibility, depending on how the 2 computers are set up, is to set up iTunes so that the 2 computers share a single library.

Hello....

I am new to this list and may be you could help me.
I use the IPhone 4g and have some several POP-Accounts
for mails.
Sometimes I can not load the mail body beside
other mails with normal mail body text.

A message appears, that the "mail was not loaded from server".
I do not know the exact English phrase, because I have
the German menu language.

Dou you guess, what I am doing wrong?

Greetings from Germany

I thought there was a manual in the iPhone box. I know there was one for my 3GS iphone. There is a black cardboard insert that has designed by Apple in California written on front that has: Information Guide, Finger Tips and a couple of white apple stickers. I just looked in one of the boxes I have kept and also saw that I have a set of headphones and USB cable. I forgot I had the extra cable and bought a replacement one a month or so back. Guess it pays to check the box.

The guide has such small print it is better to just get the pdf off line.

Doesn't that also turn off the cellular (voice) radio?

If the silent switch has been returned to normal and you are still not getting a ring when someone calls, you may have to restart your iphone. This has happened to my husband's phone several times. Hold down the sleep button (upper right hand button) for 5 to 10 seconds until the 'slide to power off' bar appears on your iphone. Slide the bar and wait a few minutes and hold the same button down again until it restarts.

Airplane Mode turns off ALL of the radios, including voice. Not just
data.

Why use Bluetooth when you can use wifi? Or is this for syncing where no
wifi is available?

Mysteriously changing features (AT&T)

Posted by: "sharonx9" sharonx9@gmail.com   sharonx1972

Thu Oct 28, 2010 5:05 am (PDT)

Twice this month when logging in to my AT&T account, I've seen the message
about wireless features being changed so no info available. My text plan
has been mysteriously changed twice this month to a higher plan and I had to
go change it back. I'm going to call AT&T about this later in the day but
found it odd. That was the only feature changed. Anyone else had this
happen?

I changed my password.

Sharon,

I had much the same experience, which confused the heck out of me,
because I use FreeText, and not AT&T's text plan.

I also found a $10 subscription to one of those "text" subscriptions...
even though, when texting the "STOP" message to the number provided,
that service returns a message saying: "This number is not a subscriber.
To subscribe, text "JOIN" to..."

Now I've got to decide whether the hour or so I spend on the phone with
AT&T is worth the $10 charged.

Set screen time out shorter or hit the lock button when finished. I've found I like the 4 min best and hit the lock top button when done.

On long phone calls not multitasking turn 3g off. I use this mainly when battery is low and I don't want it to die.
If you get the battery app, it will show you the huge difference in talk time.

I've had my iPad less than 90 days, so I called Apple support today. The iPad will work in the Caribbean with an international plan. I wish there was an Apple store closer than 170 miles away from me.

Syncing the iPhone with Windows Live Mail Contacts and Calendar

Posted by: "Len" ltrii@frontiernet.net   lentraley

I'm a newbie to the group. I joined to determine if the iPhone fits my needs.

The primary issue is whether the iPhone will synch with my Contacts and my Calendar as contained in Windows Live Mail under Windows 7 Professional. My expectation is that this process should only involve simply plugging a USB cable from the iPhone to the PC and click a button. I don't want to have to go thru some long, drawn-out process involving three or more computers, six thumb drives, nine programs and shifting information to the "cloud".

I've googled the issue and can't seem to get a straight answer. I've gotten the impression that this ability might exist through use of the iTunes program, but can't tell for sure.

My needs are fairly simple as I've been using a Palm PDA and a seperate cell phone for about ten years. The PDA has served me well and I'm looking for a replacement that puts the two basic functions in one device. I've already moved all my contacts and calendar to Windows Live Mail and am happy with its basic function. It is not as good as the old Palm OS, but does the job.

The rest of the bells and whistles that come with the iPhone are of interest, but if it can't address my basic needs, it may not be the correct choice.

Can any of you veterans of the iPhone give me the straight scoop?

Any and all input would be appreciated.

You can do this easily with iTunes or by setting your Live account up as an
Exchange ActiveSync account on the iPhone and it will be done over the air.
