pressing the power and home button fixed it....the funny thing is that when I called Apple, they were clueless...thank God for these groups....
I finally figured out that the reason those items disappeared was due to using CategoriesSB app which allows you to moved apps into folders.
thank you to all who helped.

Unable to delete Mail message

On occasion I am unable to delete an Apple Mail email message. If I power down and then power up the phone I can then delete the message normally. Anyone else have this issue?

Phone thinks headphones are plugged it

My wife is having a problem with her iPhone 4. It is acting as if the headphones are plugged in when they aren't. She can only hear a phone call if she has the headphones plugged in. If she removes them, she can't hear the call. She can speak and be heard, but she can't hear the person on the other side. We rebooted several times to no avail. Plugged in and unplugged the headphones several times. Made a reservation at the genius bar for tomorrow morning, but I was hoping maybe someone here had an idea.
Thanks!

You can try doing a Restore in iTunes but it sounds like a hardware issue
unless there is a Bluetooth device that is pairing and you don't realize
it...

Mine just did that yesterday. What a coincidence! In my case, it turned out to be an aluminum chip from work. (I'm a machinist)
Carefully prodding it with a toothpick dislodged it for me.

This may not be the same in iPhones, but it is a pretty common problem on Palm phones.
It is often (not always, evidently) caused by a glitch in the Pandora software. Does she use Pandora, or other "radio"-type software? If so -- enter that app, and start playing something. Plug the earphones in and out -- it might take a few tries. Exit the program. See if that works -- if not, I'll look up more solutions from the Palm forums. I believe there have been several different processes needed to cure it for different Palm owners.

Your tip worked! Only she used a paper clip. Don't know what it was, but prodding around with the paper clip worked!
Thanks all!

Re: auxiliary audio output: NOT car audio

Replying to all in an effort to reach some clarity...
1: I'm using a stereo connecting wire, run from the headphone jack on the iPhone to a similar jack in my car. The white cable I'm using for this connection is trouble-free.
2. The phone is never plugged in to a power source or charger during these operations.
3. I took the white cable from my car and used it to connect my iPhone to a stereo in my home, and got the same constant clicking noise.
4. The cables I've tried to use for connecting to home stereo equipment and radios are clearly of varying quality, but they all produce this noise. (I'd found a cheapy cable, and before testing it, thought I'd buy a couple others to just install in stereos and radios and just leave for future use, rather than moving one cable around. I also carry one in my briefcase)
5. The sound can be better described as a pulsation, audible at a constant rate, approximately two clicks per second. I can hear the music I'm playing, but the pulsation renders the audio unlistenable.
I'm still looking for ideas. Thanks, everybody!

Try putting your phone into airplane mode and see if that fixes it. If so it is the cell tower signal getting into the audio cable.
The solution would be to get a shielded audio cable.

What are you using to down load them? Many browsers will automatically delete incomplete files, or allow you to go to the folder you download them to and delete them from there.
Speed Download app will hold the partial downloads, but allow you to delete them.

I am sorry I should have been more specific.
It is in ITunes and they are TV episodes. I delete them but they just come back.

Go into the folder that has your iTunes music. Here will be a folder called downloads. You can delete it there. (on a pc)

I could delete them but I want to delete them mid download. I have very restricted access to Internet. I accidentally clicked on a couple of HD tv series segments. They are huge.
Thanks for trying to help. I deleted them but when I turned iTunes back on it started to d/l them again.

Based on my own experience, I had to let them download, and then I could delete.
You might check at the apple.com discussion groups to check if there's any other choice.
