eBay is full of sellers with Apple cable knockoffs that are very
inexpensive. I have always purchased extra cables for all my PDA's and
smartphones through eBay with no problem.

Amazon is another great source. I have gotten power cords and the white sync cords for very little money. They have all been just fine. Plus amazon is amazing with returns.
The only thing you have to watch for on second party vendor stuff is shipping. Some will sell you an item for say $1.99 but then charge you $4.99 to ship it.
So I monitor that but still get amazing deals. Our OtterBox cases just came and I really like them like I said in the previous email they were both right at $111.00. It was $25.00 for both plus shipping.

I am seriously contemplating purchasing the iPad through Verizon simply
because I frequent an area where the best Internet connection I get is
through a Verizon USB modem so I should successfully be able to use the iPad
via MiFi and I already pay for Verizon monthly broadband coverage so I am
hoping if I switch to the iPad/ MiFi that I will not be required to add yet
another data plan.
I just wish they had allowed for adding a high gain cellular antenna which
would have resolved connectivity problems with EVDO.

If you already have a MiFi device, then you can go to any retailer
that carries the WiFi iPad and use it. The only reason to wait for
Verizon to get them is if you also need the MiFi.

Not an expert in this area and I'm cheap. Use a Tracfone for calls
and have the WiFi version of iPad and a Touch. Keep looking fondly at
the MiFi from Verizon, Sprint or even the Virgin Mobile version with
unlimited data for $40 and no contract. I have no real need but love
toys. Last night wandering the internet, noticed Sprint has a 3g/4G MiFi
type box, same monthly charges for 5GB. Unfortunately we are not in
range for the Sprint 4G and on the fringe of the Virgin Mobile 3G MiFi
range. Have an iPad, so buying a new one with the Verizon MiFi would be
$3-500 more over 2 years than just buying the Verizon MiFi straight.
There would be ways to reduce the cost like selling the current iPad.
An RV friend had the Verizon USB stick, end of contract, so tried the
MiFi since it can be used and shared with all types of computers. Says
he likes the MiFi and will keep. Also said the overall phone bill with
the additional data, dropped $50, but haven't quizzed how that is so, or
if it was a typo 5-50.
The antenna is really needed. The MiFi also has an optional extended
battery but the cost for that is around $100.
Just some thoughts.

syncing iPhone to iTunes for only music
Posted by: "Jean French" jfrench55@rcn.com jefrench55

I believe the only way to sync with Itunes is via cable but you can only
sync the music if you want. After you connect the iPhone, select it on the
left panel of iTunes under devices. On the tabs at the top of iTunes, just
be sure only the music section is checked and it won't sync anything but the
music. I hope that helps.

Bill S., I think I forgot Quickoffice.
And to update DataViz and Docs2Go.
"On 8 September 2010, they sold their office suite Documents To Go and other
assets to Research In Motion for $50 million." from Wikipedia.
For more see this article on PCWorld.com,
http://www.pcworld.com/businesscent er/article/ 205025/rim_ buys_documents_ to_g
o_but_microsoft_missed_out. html?tk=hp_ new
And while I was looking around the DataViz site, their server shut down.
There was nothing on their home page, product page or news page. The site
went down before I could check the company page.
Oh! Its back. Yeap, nothing on their site about the buy our or any clue if
they will continue to support the existing products and platforms, or port
over to any of the platforms they have been promising for a long time.
So I took a look at DataViz's Facebook page. Still no news of any change,
and they have not posted anything new since 14 September.
They have done a great job keeping their customers informed, especially
since their customers have been begging for information about updates.
I just learned of this. Someone asked why I was mad at DataViz, and this
just confirms my reasons.

Slow Response to Touch
Posted by: "jiminmanjr" jiminmanjr@yahoo.com jiminmanjr
Wed Oct 20, 2010 7:59 am (PDT)
I have an iPhone 3GS. It's about 16 months old. I've upgraded to the 4.1 OS.
It seems that in the past few weeks the touch response has periodic delays. I can open the browser, and tap the Bookmarks button, and nothing... for about 4-5 seconds. Then it will kick in. The same with unlocking and entering my four-digit passcode. It will take a few seconds, then it will register the digits.
Anyone else having this trouble? I know that I am at about 80% memory capacity on the phone, so I've deleted some songs, podcasts and pictures, but I can't imagine that would do it. I've done more than one hard reboots, and still it continues.
Any suggestions?
Thanks!

I had the same experience and in speaking with other iPhone owners on the 4.1 OS software...I learned they were experiencing the same thing and the remedy was upgrading to the iPhone 4. I did it too. I also went to www.cellitused.com and got $240.00 for my iPhone 3GS 32G. Once I get my new phone and make the transfer ... I will send them the old. Therefore getting the new phone for @ $50.00 more!

Assuming you use a PC, I use a product from Ulead - it is an older version than what they have on their web site, but I use it to capture video off the tapes I make in a camcorder, then save them to the computer. I pick a format to save them that iTunes recognizes, and then transfer.
This also works for VHS recordings of old TV shows not available through iTunes.

Restoring from hard drive backup
Posted by: "Jo Anne" bluehaze911@gmail.com bluehaze911

Last week, for some unknown reason, when I plugged my iphone into my WinVista laptop, itunes acted as though I'd never hooked the iphone up to the computer before (been using it with this laptop for almost a year), presented me with the dialog boxes for first time use and re-added over 600 songs to iTunes duplicating those songs. It also renamed some of the songs, changed genres for many and thinks 2 songs are not authorized for use on this computer. I haven't added any songs since this happened but I have added apps. I want to restore the iTunes files but not lose the apps I've added. I back up my hard drive daily and have mirror images of my hard drive available prior to this happening. My question is, would restoring all the files in the iTunes folder except the Mobile Applications folder work? Or is there information for the apps in one of the database files in the iTunes folder that would get lost and cause corruption by restoring with an old copy?

Nick,
Folders created on your computer will only show up on your iPhone if
you are using IMAP mail instead of POP3 mail. In IMAP mail, such as
MobileMe, the folder is stored in the cloud and synchronized with
your devices. If you keep your folder only on your computer it won't
appear on the iPhone.
Hope that helps.

Software reinstall Drive, 4GB RAM ($100) options via 9 to 5 Mac by Seth

Some extras that were glossed over in the show: Apple is including a
Software Re-install Drive (bye-bye optical). We're expecting that Lion
will be released on USB Stick (Or SD?) as well.
Also, Jobs had us worried, but we now see a 4GB option on MacBook Airs.
We can now breathe again!
That 2GB of RAM will cost you $100. Done and bought.
Things you can do from here:
- Subscribe to 9 to 5 Mac using Google Reader

I was just on their website looking at the new air. I am seriously considering getting one but one thing is stopping me at this time - can my fat fingers live without the number pad?

No current Apple keyboard has a numeric keypad, the MB Air has a "full size"
(same size a the BT keyboard that ships with the last two generation iMacs
and the generation priors wired keyboard).
