Help - iPhone resizes every app change
Posted by: "sigrid75707" sigrid75707@yahoo.com sigrid75707
Tue Oct 5, 2010 6:25 am (PDT)
My iPhone 3GS has lately started freezing and trying to shut it down to reboot takes multiple tries but I finally was able to do it. Now the screen constantly resizes at each app change and I actually have to move the screen up or down to see the clock when in some apps. No rebooting seems to solve this.
Any ideas?
So far it has not affected anything else that I've found out about
Thanks.... Sigrid

Lol you have the option for impaired people turned on. It's so you can use three fingers to zoom in and out, making the screen zoom in for sight impared.

I was going to post these pix in the photo section..but I think it is
disabled. I am trying to attached the two pix here is my cases
Here is what I have for my 3Gs...and it has been the best.
The case is a "naked shell". Kiosks in malls...att stores sometimes have
them Pix Case 1
Then I went to best buy for this belt case. Best buy was the only one I
found that had a case that would take the slightly larger naked shell. Case
2 pix
That was a great combination for me.
This naked shell case was do good...I was on phone in NYC...it got knocked
out of my hand...and cars ran over it...no damage at all.
I gave this one to my daughter. I have the IP4...and have not found that
combination yet. The otterbox protects well. But it is too big to wear
under a suit and the rubber makes it tough to put in a pocket.
Something will come out.
Thanks
Bill

auxiliary audio output: NOT car audio

I have a question about connecting my 3GS iPhone to any radio or stereo with an auxiliary input.
When connecting with many stereos, I get a constant, rhythmic pop-pop-popping noise. Sometimes I can fidget with the connection at one end or the other and make it go away, but not always.
Advice?
FYI, the connection with the input in my Camry Hybrid works with no trouble like this at all.

Are you using the same connecting cable in all locations? Or are you
using one in the car and a different one elsewhere?

iPhone to iTunes
Posted by: "k2sg" k2sg@comcast.net k2sg
Tue Oct 5, 2010 12:02 pm (PDT)
Away on extended vacation and wife wants to upgrade her very sluggish upgraded to Ver 4 3G to a iPhone 4. I have a PC notebook with me that has the latest version of iTunes installed. The 3G is normally sync'd to a desktop at home. What I want to do is sync the 3G to itunes on the notebook and transfer all of the contacts to the PC so I will be able to transfer them back to the new iP4 when we pick it up. I connected the 3G, backed up then attempted to do a "Sync Contacts with Windows Contacts" and selected the "Merge Contacts" option. I did not lose any contact info on the 3G but none of the contact information transferred to the Windows Contacts which has me stumped. I am using Windows 7 on both the notebook and Desktop at home. I hope someone can tell me what I'm doing wrong or just how to back up the 3G Contact info so I can easily reload it on the new iP4. I searched for hours on this reflector and inet but am more confused then when I started. Any help would be appreciated.

Open your eyes: Google Goggles now available on iPhone in Google Mob

Goggles now available on iPhone in Google Mobile App via Google Mobile
Blog by Lawrence Chang on 10/5/10
Searching with Google on your mobile phone can be an eye-opening
experience. Now your phoneâs camera can even help to find out more
about the world around you.
Back in December we introduced Google Goggles on Android: it lets you
search by taking pictures. Today, weâre excited to announce that
Goggles is now a feature of Google Mobile App for iPhone. Google Mobile
App already lets you speak your queries, and it can also use your
phoneâs location to give you more relevant search results.
In the new version of Google Mobile App just tap on the camera button
to search using Goggles. Goggles will analyze the image and highlight
the objects it recognizes -- just click on them to find out more. You
can see how this works in this short video:
Computer vision is a hard problem and Google Goggles is still a Labs
product. It works well for things such as landmarks, logos and the
covers of books, DVDs and games. However, it doesnât yet work for some
things you might want to try like animals, plants or food.
Google Mobile App with Google Goggles is now available in the Apple App
Store. Just search for âGoogle Mobile Appâ and download the latest
version - itâs free. It will gradually be appearing in all App Stores
around the world starting from today.
Goggles is enabled only for English-speaking users, and since it
requires an auto-focusing camera it is supported only on iPhone 3GS and
iPhone 4 running iOS 4 or above. Visit our Help Center to learn more or
send us your feedback and questions in our Help Forum.
So step away from your computer, get your Goggles on, and search the
world around you.

Hrm, is it just a link to their web app that has been around for a while or an actual separate application? Â My phone is restoring right now so I will try it in an hour or so.

Apple would not allow before. This is new.

It is nice that it is interfacing with contacts. It has listed my contacts twice and I am thinking it is getting it from my contacts list from my gmail contacts and not my mobile me contacts in my address book. or maybe it is getting it from both places ... not sure.
Will be interesting to see if the google voice feature will become a standalone feature not using Safari and a direct voip type interface would be nice too.

Bill, thanks for alerting us to this update to the google mobile app ... I am having fun with the google goggles feature. I am using the camera icon to view vacation photos on my ipad and it is recognizing some of the landmarks fairly well and now I can find out the names of some of the places we saw in various cities that I have forgotten. Like all the cathedrals and such that you see in Europe.
It even thought the stripes in my husband's shirt was a barcode and made an attempt at locating a product. LOL
Overall it is doing a fairly good attempt at this camera or image recognition and is amazing that our technology is coming along so fast.

MobileMe question

Sorry -- I know that has been asked and answered but I cannot seem to find it by searching backwards.....
I finally signed up for the free MobileMe trial.
I think I like it and may want to purchase when the trial is up. I've seen on Amazon that some are listed as "old" version.
Does that make a difference?
TIA,
John

I just bought mine from a company who sells on amazon. I bought directly from them. They gave me coupon for the next purchase. You should look into that.

Find the cheapest one you can find since they are all the same. IIRC, the only thing in the box is you registration key, some info on features, some instructions, and maybe some Apple stickers.
Make sure you turn off the auto renewal if you don't want to pay full bore. Again, IIRC, at the end of the first year Apple renewed me about 45 days early.

Sent to you by Bill Boulware via Google Reader: Google Goggles reaches
the App Store, only supported on iPhone 3GS and iPhone 4 via Engadget
by Darren Murph on 10/5/10
We can't exactly figure out why Google wants to give away all of
Android's competitive advantages, but hey, we doubt the legions of iOS
users are kvetching. Ten months after the first public build of Goggles
hit the Android Market, the same app is now making waves on the iPhone.
Rather than being a standalone app, Goggles is being wrapped into a new
version of the Google Mobile App; users simply tap on the camera button
to search using Goggles. As you've come to expect, it'll analyze the
image and highlight any object it recognizes, allowing Retina Display
fanboys to touch on said objects to learn more. It'll be rolling out
free of charge to App Stores worldwide today, but since it requires an
auto-focusing camera, it's supported only on iPhone 3GS and iPhone 4
running iOS 4 or above. The pain of progress, we guess.
[Thanks, Mark]

iOS: Audiobooks are great but they're generally pretty expensive.
Fortunately there are a ton of free audiobook recordings in the public
domain, and now you can easily download them to your iPhone, iPad, or
iPod touch. More »

No, WiFi always shuts off after it goes to sleep to save battery.

When I first got my iPhone 4, WiFi stayed on even when it was asleep, my understanding was that was for apps like Skype to be able to get calls while asleep. Are you saying that's not true?
