I have a iphone without service. Dont even have a sims card. AND you can still do everything else with it, even make phone calls if you have skype or one of the several other voip services that have iphone apps, just as long as wifi is available.

I finally imported all my pics & videos from the last few months. There's a checkbox about correcting orientation or something, and all my pics came out fine that way. But my videos are upside down. How can I fix this? I don't have any special photo, picture, or editing programs. (I have been able to edit still pics so they are right side up.)

I noticed when you connect it wont tell you there is an update until you click on update. What I do is everytime I connect to itunes, I click on update just to see.

As far as your apps, on your iphone, just go to the apps store, then at the bottom click on update. You can update that way instead of through itunes.

If you look on your phone info on iTunes when it is connected to iTunes, it
will give you the date when it will check to see if a new update is
available. Before that date, you will have to check manually, as you do.

BGR Breaks It Down: How to use AirPrint with any printer

Apple's latest iOS update finally adds AirPrint to iOS devices,
bringing wireless printing capabilities to the iPhone, iPad and iPod
touch. That's the good news. The bad news is that in order to use
AirPrint, you need a compatible printer. Since very few printers are
compatible at this point in time, odds are pretty good that yours isn't
one of them. Don't worry, though — that's where hobbyist hackers come
in.

If you own a Mac and a printer, you can use AirPrint. In fact, your
printer doesn't even have to be wireless. A simple new hack using an OS
X app dubbed AirPrint Hacktivator will enable printing via AirPrint for
nearly anyone in a matter of minutes. Hit the jump for a guide that
will get you up and running in no time.

1. Download the latest version of AirPrint Hacktivator
2. Unzip the AirPrint Hacktivator to your desktop or Applications
folder, then run it
3. Slide the toggle switch in the app to ON, then enter your
administrator password when prompted
4. Click OK to confirm
5. Now, go to System Preferences -> Print & Fax
6. Click the minus symbol to remove your printer, then add it back and
check the box share it on your network (see video below for
instructions)

You're now ready to use AirPrint from your iPhone, iPad or iPod touch
running iOS 4.2 or later. Just remember that your Mac must be on and
connected to your network in order for your hacktivated AirPrint to
work.

After a few hours itunes mysteriously was able to connect to it again
and reported another update available 4.2.1 (the one in the morning was
4.2.0), for now it seems to be working, haven't used it yet.

That is something that Yahoo does from time to time. I will even get dupes on my Email client at home. You could contact Yahoo but I dought it will help.

There is apparently a Droid app that is named "No Text While Driving" and was self-designed by a regular user. See, http://droidbros.com/2010/07/12/google-invents-app-inventor-shows-non-coders-love/

The iPhone app store applications have nothing similar. In the interest of preventing distracted driving, is there any app now in the works for the iPhone? Are any of you working on one?

You need an app for that??

Can't you just PUT THE PHONE AWAY?!?

It's not like it's jumping up in your face *making* you use it (for texting
or anything else).

If someone is *that* bent out of shape by not getting an instant reply,
tough tooties.

Geez.

Waze tries to prevent you from doing it, but you can override.
Previous versions wouldn't let you type if it determined via GPS that
you were moving.

How to Activate Find My iPhone for iOS 4

Posted by: "Bill Boulware" bill.boulware@gmail.com   boulware0224

Mon Nov 29, 2010 11:14 am (PST)

Sent to you by Bill Boulware via Google Reader: How to Activate Find My
iPhone for iOS 4 via Wired: Gadget Lab by Brian X. Chen on 11/29/10

Apple last week rolled out a major update for its mobile operating
system iOS 4, and among the new features is a nifty free tool: Find My
iPhone.

As its name suggests, Find My iPhone is a tracking feature to locate a
missing iPhone 4, iPad or fourth-generation iPod Touch. (Only the
latest models get the free feature.) If you've dropped your iDevice in
a cab, or if someone's stolen it, you can hop on a computer to follow
the GPS coordinates of the iPhone on a Google map (see above).

Or, if you're just absent-minded like me and you misplace your iPhone
as often as you lose your keys, you can use your computer to trigger a
beeping sound to help you find it. It should be loud enough to hear
from under a couch cushion. (You'll never have to bug a friend to call
your phone again.)

If you do indeed think your iPhone is in the hands of a thief, you can
use Find My iPhone to remotely lock the device or wipe the data. (Do
note, however, that a clever thief could just remove the SIM card, and
you wouldn't be able to track or wipe the phone.)

Of the many new features in iOS 4.2.1, I found this one to be one of
the sweetest bonuses. Find My iPhone originally was only available as
part of a MobileMe subscription, which costs $10 per month. Making it
free was a nice move on Apple's part: An iPhone can potentially contain
a treasure trove of personal information, so losing one is a big deal.

You need to activate Find My iPhone before you lose your phone, so do
it now. Since the steps to turn this useful feature on aren't
immediately obvious, here's how to do it:

1. Make sure you have the latest iOS update (iOS 4.2.1) installed. Plug
in your iPhone and click "Check for updates" in iTunes to get the
software.

2. With iOS 4.2.1 installed, tap the Settings app on your iPhone. Then
tap "Mail, Contacts, Calendars" and "Add Account."

3. In the account menu, enter your iTunes or Apple ID and password
(i.e., the login you use to buy iTunes media on the iPhone).

4. The "Find My iPhone" option should appear. Slide it to "ON" to
activate it."

And you're done! From here on, you can hop on a computer and enter
www.me.com in a web browser. Then enter the same login credentials you
used to register for Find My iPhone, and you'll immediately get a GPS
reading of the phone, along with a simple menu of buttons allowing you
to lock, wipe, or send a message or sound to the iPhone.

Poll: Need New Voice Control features

Posted by: "Tim" thutches@ihmc.us   thutches

Mon Nov 29, 2010 11:16 am (PST)

I have managed to mount my Griffin iPhone mount nicely to the top of my airbag, using just Velcro strips to hold the uppermost part of the Griffin mount. Works a treat!

But now that I have a nice hands free mount that I can Voice control dial and receive incoming phone calls (top of airbag on the steering is a perfect distance), I started to wonder how nice it would be if Apple would extend the Accessibility text-to-speech feature (which is clear and fast) so that a setting would cause incoming text message to simply pop up as they do but be immediately spoken. And even better if tapping the SMS ballon would cause it to repeat the spoken text. That would be a practical compromise allowing much safer messaging than being tempted to read a text message, which we all know is unsafe. There's no way to really avoid messaging completely but it needs to be safer and not require mental focus on the phone. the audio focus seems to be acceptable, like having someone talking in the car.

And I think the same technique could be applied to mail, but with some means for selecting which email folders that would use audio to reduce clutter, (my boss and my wife, for example). I'd like to see the audio enabled email folder opened, the email spoken and the email headers in that folder used to cause any mail to respoken by tapping the header.

This minimal level of physical interaction with the phone seems acceptable to me.

Any one with ideas about this?

Tim

Have you considered what will happen if the airbag is deployed. It will be
implanted somewhere in your body or become a flying object that might kill a
passenger.

Besides the legal ramifications (hands-free or not, some police officers
are likely to write a ticket for texting while driving where it is not
allowed), mounting your iPhone or any device on the airbag is incredibly
dangerous. If the airbag inflates, that iPhone (or other device) is
going to slam you in the chest with a LOT of force.

That's what we have it on currently but it is completely silent, including no vibration. I'm wondering if vibrate is even activated at all on texts. After thinking about it, I don't recall it vibrating on texts when I had a 3G or with my current i4.

Thanks for the help you provide here Bill. I've gleaned many things from your answers.

Hi. I spent 10 min rearranging all my aps. Then I did a synch and it put them all back where they were before.

Any tips? iPhone 3Gs with PC Vista

Thanks. Calle

Use iTunes to organize them, then sync. Click on apps under the device (where you click which ones to sync ) and use the right hand column to do it.

Sent from my iPhone (please excuse incorrect auto-corrected words).
