Look under Settings / General / Sounds. In the third section, tap "Text
Tone" and you'll see a set of "Original" tones and above it a set of "New"
ones.

I see the 17 new text tones, but how do you apply one of them to a contact so
you know who just texted you?

Go into contacts, select a contact, edit contact, it's right below ringtone.
The new textones almost sound like they got them from Warner Bros cartoons.

Thanks Dave... I thought I was the only one. I have a 3GS also. I'm going to try to backup and restore to 4.2 unless someone else gives me a red flag not to. This is actually the first time I've ever had a prob with an iPhone upgrade.

I've read in a couple places online that they're apparently available
on the iPhone 4 only.
Apparently Apple must believe 3G and 3GS hardware platforms are just
too old and rickety to support additional text tones.

So after doing the upgrades. What is everyone's opinion. Compared to the
chernoybl fallout of 4.0 What is the overall consensus of upgrading to 4.2?

I'm not seeing any difference on my 3rd gen iPod Touch. I think the
only new feature that would effect me in any way is the Airprint,
which does not work with a Windows desktop.

Honestly, I don't know what else to tell you to try, maybe call Apple
Support - I have had my share of Mac / iOS / Computer related issues in
general but Airprint (and Airplay) both 'just worked' for me - my setup
sounds very similar to yours I have a "Network" Cannon PIXMA printer plugged
into one of my routers and my other home printer is plugged into a Windows
machine via USB, both are installed on my "main" Mac, Printer Sharing on,
and both checked as being shared with "everyone" "can print" - last night I
added the Cannon to the new MB Air for the first time and it showed up on
the phone right after that.
The only possible difference is that I am running the Gold Master vs the
"official" release but the build numbers are the same - 8C148 for both iPad
WiFi & iPhone 4

Our 3 at a time blu-ray membership went up from $17.99 to 23.99. I called and was told it was the first time they raised rates in over 5 years. That's a lie but I dropped the blu-ray part since it's easier to get blu-rays thru redbox now anyway.

What they DIDN'T publicize is that AirPrint only works for 10 HP
printers at the moment, with a few more to follow.
If you want to print to ANY printer, buy AirSharePro. Great app,
anyway, because it does all kinds of stuff - and prints to any
printer on a WiFi network.

Not true, those 10 HP printers will work without a Mac on - all other
printers have to be shared through a Mac to work through Airprint. Yes I
know some of you don't have it working yet and I don't know why but I have
been using Airprint for 2 months without an HP printer via shared printers
on iMac and yesterday on a MB Air both running 10.6.5

Developer build but installing the final didn't remove them - I must have
missed the 'notice' that they didn't include the Airprint Drivers from the
final release (makes no sense as there was never an issue with it).
From what I have gathered, if you only have the final 10.6.5 installed you
only have the HP Support, if you install the "removed" drivers it does work
fine but you do have to download the drivers from non-apple sources and
place them according to document I posted.

And me from scratching my head! Thanks for letting us know that it 'fixed'
it - I have no idea why Apple did not include those in the official 10.6.5
update, it does not effect anything other than making Airprint unusable....

Bill,
Exactly where are the usr/libexec and the usr/share folders? If I go to hd/users/usr/ I don't see either of them. Or are you using terminal to do it? If so could you illuminate us with a 'step-by-step'.
Thanks, Bob

Steve Jobs on wireless, driverless printing
Posted by: "Bill Boulware" bill.boulware@gmail.com boulware0224

Sent to you by Bill Boulware via Google Reader: Steve Jobs on
wireless, driverless printing via BGR | Boy Genius Report by Jonathan
S. Geller on 11/23/10
Haven't got your Steve Jobs email fix for the day yet? Good, because
another one is making the rounds, and this time it's about Apple's
AirPrint feature. If you have been keeping up on the saga, Apple
announced AirPrint with support for some select HP printers, but they
also indicated you'd be able to print to any shared printer on your
local Wi-Fi network. At iOS 4.2 launch, however, only the HP models are
officially supported (and enabled). Here is a reported email into Steve
Jobs on the issue and the response:
Dear Steve,
You got me all hype about AirPrint. Now with iOS 4.2 released, I find
out that I can only print on 11 select printers. Seriously?!
And, Steve Jobs' alleged reply:
Lots more coming soon. It's what it takes to make a giant leap to
driverless printing, which is huge.
There are unofficial ways to reenable support for shared printer
printing on Mac OS X 10.6.5 and your iOS devices, but for the purists
out there, maybe word of this feature slowly being reintroduced in a
"huge" way will give you peace of mind.
