the text tones are stupid sounding anyway, I'm not impressed at all! Who needs
a text that last 5-10 seconds?

I've read in a couple places online that they're apparently available
on the iPhone 4 only.
Apparently Apple must believe 3G and 3GS hardware platforms are just
too old and rickety to support additional text tones.

Oh, there is a difference after all... the iPod app now sometimes
brightens the display when changing songs while plugged into the
charge&play car adapter. This is highly distracting at night, and 4.1
and older did not do that.

Click in the Finder.
Near the bottom of the "Go" menu is "Go to folder".
Copy "/usr/libexec/cups/filter" (for example) and paste it into the "Go to folder" requester.
When you copy the files into their folders, the system will require an administrator password.

Trying to use 'find my iPhone app' I just downloaded.
I don't have mobile me account and when I go into settings etc.. to set up
MM it says my user name is incorrect.
I've used my iTunes user name (my email address) and the first part + me.com
but neither work. Could this be because my ISP is Australian?
Thanks

you don't use the me.com - use your iTunes Account full email address (
rthomson@bigpond.net.au )? and your iTunes Account password to add the
MobileMe account and the only option you will have is to turn Find my iPhone

Hi,
I'm a new iPhone user. I am experiencing very low telephone volume. I can
barely hear the person I am talking with. I am also experiencing problems
with quick battery drainage.
Has anyone else experienced similar problems? Any suggestions on fixing the
problems?
Thanks,
John

Warranty on 3G
Posted by: "Dd" dnd2000@gmail.com sidthebad
Tue Nov 23, 2010 1:22 pm (PST)
I have a new iphone4 and gave my 3G to my daughter. The 3G is just about 2 years old.
The 3G now only receives some of the texts sent to it. When I put the 3G sim card in another phone all the old texts suddenly arrive on the other phone so the sim appears fine.
The 3G appears to be defective to me. I shall do a full restore and also update to 4.2 (it's currently on 4.1).
But my question is if I still have issues is the phone still covered by Apple at all? It's out of contract (finished this summer). Is it worth seeing Apple for a fix or do I just use it as a chunky iPod touch?
Thanks,
David

unless you specifically purchased an additional warranty, your warranty has expired at least a year ago.
as far as not getting your text messages,it seems to be a common problem with the 3g. A quick google of the problem was pretty interesting. Several said the following worked
1. Press the home button (the big circle below the screen) and the sleep wake button (the button on top of the iPhone) simultaneously.
2. Hold both buttons simultaneously for a few seconds, Ignore the "Slide to power off" and keep holding
3. The iPhone should now shutdown automatically - (fade to black)
4. Turn the iPhone back on by hitting the sleep/wake button.
5. You should now see the Apple logo, your iPhone is restarting and thus booting up.
6. You have completed a hard reset successfully.

iPhone 4.2: iPhone Error Message Keeping You Updating to iOS 4.2?

Sent to you by Bill Boulware via Google Reader: iPhone 4.2: iPhone
Error Message Keeping You Updating to iOS 4.2? via iSmashPhone - Turn
your Phone into your MyPhone by Jacob Lopez on 11/23/10
iPhone error messages, we all hate them. We've seen and talked about
several of them before, but no matter what you do, they will just show
up sometimes. Just don't panic, it happens.
One of our devices was plagued by the error message above. It's indeed
frustrating, especially when all you want to do is update your device
and move on with your life.
Here's how it happens, you are updating your device to the latest build
of iOS, in our case it was iOS 4.2.1, and the above message pops up.
Okay, now what?
Well, somehow our device was stuck in recovery mode:
After wasting several hours and nearly having a heart attack, we
decided that the best course of action may just be to Restore and
update our device. We really didn't want to, but it was one of the only
things left to do.
We had iPhone Error 1013, but there are a load of other errors
according to Apple's website:
The alert message in iTunes may also include one of the following
numbers (but is not limited to): 2, 4, 5, 6, 9, 13, 14, -18, 19, 20,
21, 23, 28, 29, -48, -50, 1002, 1011, 1013, 1014, 1015, 1601, 1602,
1603, 1604, 1608, 1609, 1611, 1612, 1639, 2009, 3004, 3013, 3014, 3015,
9807, -9808, 9844, 4026xxxxx.
Unfortunately, the only way fix this is to troubleshoot and go through
each one of Apple's fixes in hopes that something works (detailed
instructions for each fix are in the link above):
Update to the latest version of iTunes Update to the latest version of
your operating system Restart your computer Open the proper ports and
allow access to Apple servers USB Troubleshooting Restore on a
different computer Advanced Steps Specific error codes and resolutions
Contact Apple
We tried a full restore to factory settings -
1) Hit restore:
2) iTunes will ask you if you are sure you want to restore. Restore
will completely wipe your iPhone and take it back to its factory
settings. This is why we back up, folks. If you ever have to wipe your
iPhone, you want a way to get your numbers and contacts back.
We kept trying and trying on our Mac to no avail. We connected the
iPhone to another computer (a PC) and what do you know? It worked.
Point is, keep trying. Try different things, and if you have a second
computer, you may even want to try that...worked for us.

Thanks for the responses everyone!
I totally agree, I'm not a fan of giving out my number for every one to see....
I did some research and found a site that claims to connect facetime users
safely called "facetimebff". Funny name right? Anyway it seems legit so I
signed up and made a profile, looks like they have a decent amount of users so
far, me thinks they must be pretty new. So if you guys wanna join and contact
me through there then we can test out facetime!
heres my profile: http://www.facetimebff.com/profilei d47.aspx
Look forward to facetiming it up with some fanboys!

To do Facetime with a stranger would require that you give them your phone
number. Do you really want to do that. It does not sound safe to me.

3G Bricked?

I started an update to 4.2 and came back to a white Apple with a solid white
bar below.
Only way to shut it off is power and menu buttons together. Powering back
on takes it to an Apple and a hollow white bar that slowly fills up again in
a vicious circle.
Advice?
Thanks, Mark
