app for iPhone hits the App Store via Engadget by Chris Ziegler on

A few weeks after third-party apps started filtering in, Google's
launched its own Google Voice app for the iPhone, and it looks to have
all the most important features: call and text support, push
notifications, and voicemail access (including transcriptions). It's
available right now -- US only at the moment -- on iPhones with iOS 3.1
or higher as long as you've got a valid Google Voice account set up...
so get to it.

Bill, I have a Google Voice number that I never use. Can this feasibly be used instead of my AT&T number? I was just wondering because if it can, I could drop down to the absolute lowest plan that they have and save me some money.

Thanks!

Google Voice is NOT VoIP it is just a 'one number' forwarding service - if
you use your GVoice # it just forwards the calls to your AT&T number. Now
if you set Google Voice to use your GV # as the caller ID on calls, you can
set it as one of your "Friends and Family" numbers and save minutes that way
but Friends & Family isn't available unless you are on the 1400+ plan...

E.T.A. for iOS 4.2

Posted by: "John R Park" lajohn72@sbcglobal.net   jpark49149

Tue Nov 16, 2010 12:18 pm (PST)

The first rumored release was last Friday November 12, after the upgrade of
Itunes earlier in the week.
Then I read ( via various sources, including here) it was postponed, because of
wifi issues with the iPAD.

The next rumored release date was supposed to be today, Tuesday November 16..
Still nothing.. Only news is about the BEATTLES MUSIC LIBRARY, being released on
Itunes.

Any updated info on when iOS 4.2 update will be released?

some odd reason

To search for it in iTunes type in googlevoice
all one word, though the App is Google Voice. Strange.

I know I'm not Bill...but.....if you use Google voice...it counts towards your minutes, HOWEVER, if you have AT&T's friends list plan...you could conceivably circumvent it and add the Google number as one of your numbers and it wouldn't use your minutes. Hope that makes sense to you!

I have an odd problem. I upgraded to a new computer, reinstalled everything and now for some reason most, but not all, of my apps are showing up twice in iTunes. I'm a little afraid to delete the extra apps, don't know what effect that might have. Has anybody experienced this? Help?

You can delete them all - just when it prompts you if you want to delete the
files from the hard drive, say no then do File > Add to library and browse
to Apps folder (iTunes\iTunes Music\Apps\) and let iTunes readd them to your
library...

Headphone recommendation iPhone 4

Posted by: "Dawn" dawnmfb12@yahoo.com   dawnmfb12

Tue Nov 16, 2010 4:34 pm (PST)

Hello group,
I'm having a heck a time finding a quality set of headphones with an inline microphone and phone/music controls.

I would like the audio to be of a good enough quality for listening to a wide range of music. Audiophile quality is not necessary, but tiny, tinny speakers are not cutting it.

Speaker quality has not proven to be the biggest challenge, though. After trying five different sets of headphones, each one of them had the same problem--the mic is too low on the wire, too far away from my mouth/jaw for it to pick up my speech well. For the person on the other end to hear clearly, I have to either put my chin to my chest or hold the mic to my mouth, obviously defeating the handsfree intent.

I was trying to stay relatively inexpensive but am willing to entertain more costly solutions if it means good headphones with a useful mic. Wireless or wired.

Thanks in advance for any suggestions!
Dawn

Look for Plantronics 855 / 900 series, Jawbone Icon, or Blueant bluetooth
headsets - just make sure they have A2DP stereo (preferably with AVRCP
controls) as well as Handsfree/Headset profiles - you can use them for both
phone calls (microphone right by your mouth) and listening to audio.

In my opinion, the Apple ear buds that come with the iPhone 4 seam to meet all your requirements. It's all I use.

Chirping noise

I have been charging my iPhone with a Belkin combo charger/surge protector. Today my iPhone has started making odd chirping noise, while charging & other random times. Have I inadvertently changed a setting? I also notice the green light that was by the "protected" label doesn't always glow. Any connection?
Thanks to all the smart people who have an answer for me.
