I had a similar problem on my PC (without a new PC involved). I have observed the following: (this is what is happening in my case)
I remove an app from my iphone or from the app list in iTunes, I usually select "leave the files option instead of send them to trash". Then I run update option in iTunes app to update all my current apps. With the option to "add new apps automatically" checked, I sync again those old apps that I had removed that are being updated are also assumed to be new apps again and are added outside the folder.

Actually, upon prowling the forum on Apple Tech support, I find that this is apparently a bug with "older" birthdates - they all seem to come up as Dec 13.

How old is "old" in this case?

Sit Tight, iOS 4.2 Not Due Until Next Week (Rumor)

Sit Tight, iOS 4.2 Not Due Until Next Week (Rumor)
A Greek iPhone blog with a reputation for accuracy has shot down previous reports that iOS 4.2 will see the light of day today.
iPhoneHellas reports that, according to a "reliable source," the firmware upgrade that will bring all iDevices in line with one another is most likely to make its grand entrance on November 16th. (Cue "See you next Tuesday" jokes...)
While you cool your heels waiting for 4.2's Day One, you can still review our analysis of what the new OS will bring to the table, how to prepare for 4.2 in the interim -- and what the jailbreak scene have up their sleeves once it does arrive.
Note: iPhoneHellas.gr has been correct with their past predictions this is why we are posting this rumor.

We've already got the Mac OS X update, and here's iTunes 10.1. Next
stop? iOS 4.2. If your copy of iTunes isn't pushing the update, you can
head to Apple's page where it'll be there, waiting for you. In addition
to paving way for the new iOS, iTunes 10.1 adds the much anticipated
video AirPlay feature (it launched as audio only), so fire up that
Apple TV and push yourself some vids!

Skyfire Use
Posted by: "Richard E Johnson, MD" RECMSOJ@OnlineOK.com recmsoj
Fri Nov 12, 2010 11:09 am (PST)
When you reach a website using Skyfire that says you need Flash Video player and provides a link to download it, the resulting Adobe page generates a comment by Skyfire stating that you can't download the Flash player and that this functionality is present in Skyfire. Okay, now what? There seems to be no way to go back to the original page with the Flash video on it and induce Skyfire to recognize it as such and start processing it for you to view. Suggestions?
Thanks,
Dick Johnson

5 Things to Know About iTunes 10.1

Sent to you by Bill Boulware via Google Reader: 5 Things to Know About
iTunes 10.1 via iSmashPhone - Turn your Phone into your MyPhone by
Jacob Lopez on 11/12/10
Apple today released their latest version of iTunes, iTunes 10.1.
Little has changed as far as appearance; it still has that grey and
white color scheme that seemed so unpopular amongst users. That said,
there are some changes worth noting.
For those wanting to update, it's available on Apple's Website, or via
the Software Update menu on your Mac. Those of you who installed the
Beta should note that this one does include features not available
previously. But you may have to use Apple's website to install.
Let's have a look at some of the new stuff in iTunes 10.1:
1) iOS 4.2 Compatibility
iTunes 10.1 adds iOS 4.2 compatibility. In other words, you will need
the newest version of iTunes to run your devices on iOS 4.2. It seems
that some iPad users had issues with wifi (iOS 4.2 GM), which we even
had some commenters mention last week.
Rumors now point to a November 24th release date, thanks to the delay
caused by the wifi problems. That's a far stretch from the original
date most of us were expecting (November 7).
2) Ping can now be hidden, or disabled entirely
Ping may be an interesting concept for those who enjoy social
networking or finding new music through friends. Others probably have
no use for it. We haven't used it ourselves since our initial tests. If
you don't care for ping, you can now hide or disable it.
Hide Ping: iTunes>Preferences>General>Show and uncheck Ping.
Disable Ping: This is available under iTunes>Preferences>Parental
Controls. There, you will find a menu with options to disable certain
services. Check off Ping to disable it completely.
3) Ping Update in Terms of Service
It's also been reported that the new agreement for iTunes mentions that
iTunes will "send information to Apple about the content you select in
your iTunes library" this will allow them to send you personal
recommendations via the Ping service.
IMPORTANT NOTE REGARDING PING. We have changed the iTunes Store Terms
and Conditions to provide you notice that if you have opted in to the
Ping social network and use the new Ping Sidebar, iTunes will send
information to Apple about the content you select in your iTunes
library in order to provide you with Ping personal recommendations. By
using Ping, you agree to Apple's use of such information. If you do not
want iTunes to send this information to Apple for Ping, you may hide
the Ping Sidebar or opt out of Ping.
4) Ping Adds Twitter Integration
Yesterday Twitter announced that the service will have direct Ping
integration. This will allow you to automatically Tweet messages from
Ping, such as music you like, dislike, review, etc. You will also be
able to click on a user's Ping Tweet and have a playable song or album
show up on the sidebar of your Twitter page.
One thing to watch out for is that Ping will Tweet on it's own, unless
you change the settings to require that you do it manually. You know,
just in case you happen to enjoy music that you don't want your friends
knowing about.
We tested it out for ourselves:
Yes. Ping can lead to embarrassment.
5) AirPlay
AirPlay now has an updated icon (Above) and plays video (prior to this
update it was audio only). It's still located in the bottom right
corner of the window, and the function is still the same. AirPlay
allows for you to stream content between iOS devices. For instance,
beaming your iTunes music or (video) to an extra set of speakers or to
Apple TV.
Note for Apple TV users: As of the time of our testing, the original
Apple TV can be used as an AirPlay speaker via the AirTunes protocol,
but you will not be able to stream video unless you have an Apple TV 2G
(However, we have heard that even the new Apple TV hasn't received the
necessary update yet).
Initially, the iPhone 3G was going to be compatible. That seems to have
changed since the early beta versions of iOS 4.2.
iTunes 10.1
If you were hoping that the new upgrade would add color, you're out of
luck. However, you can always check out some of the past tutorials
we've run.
Also, in preparation of 4.2, why not read up on some of our
impressions, and other tips?
What will iOS 4.2 Bring to the iPhone?

What's new in iOS 4.2?

a comment, and we'll check it out.

The video didn't look much different than my 3GS performance. What difference would it make on 3GS? Are there any new features on this, such as camera zoom or the ability to delete the Stocks app? :-)
Actually that Stocks app pisses me off. I always heard Apple was fundamentally different; user friendly. The iPhone is my first exposure to Apple products, and the Stock button reminds me of Microsoft's "We know what's best for you" mentality.

Jeff is right, I did have battery life in mind. Using 3G absolutely drains the battery faster than not using 3G. I'm not so sure if I gave the reaon in my original question.

The alarming voice dial result
Posted by: "Book_of_Hezekiah" book_of_hezekiah_10_26@yahoo.com book_of_hezekiah_10_26
Sat Nov 13, 2010 3:19 am (PST)
There was a problem with the train crossing gates, so I tried to call 911. (In my area, 911 is for dire emergencies and also general dispatch.) I was driving so I activated Voice Command. "Dial 911" I said. "Dialing 511" it said. I pronounced it clearer, then louder. I thought that there are easily circumstances where a hand could be pinned and dialing is not possible. I also wondered if inability to dial could be legally "actionable."
So...am I missing something?

iTunes 10.1

Having a problem with iTunes 10.1. I am running Windows 7 64 bit. When I
install Itunes 10.1 I loose all network connection. If I restore the system
to its state before upgrading iTunes the network works again. Where can I
download the 10.0 version of ITunes again so that I can install it again?
