Thanks for the opinion, Donald, but of course those were the first I tried.
The microphone is far too low for my face.

In my opinion, the Apple ear buds that come with the iPhone 4 seam to meet all
your requirements. It's all I use.

The Scosche IDR655m have done very well in reviews.

This brand is new to me but they seem to make quite a few accessories worth
looking at.

Go to best but and buy the black Sony ones that look like the origionall apple ones $32. They are louder and better. The volume up/down does not work on my 3g. I picked up a spare set just the other day and noticed they have a ear bud style also but I prefer the style that won't fall out of my ear. I use them 12 hours a day.
Happy QSO'ing. Mike R

Dawn,
I use the Scosche IDR655m and I love 'em.
The in-line mic is high on the cable and the controls are easy to use.
I've tried lots of earbud types and these seem to meet my needs currently -- good sound and easy to use for phone or music.
List is about $100 but I think you can find them for less.

Are you sure? My recollection is that the later G4s were unable to boot in
OS 9 so a G5 wouldn't be able to either. If you are running OS 9, surely
it's in the Classic environment, so you are also running OS X?

I'm sorry for the misinformation. Our Imac G5 is running OS 10.4 (Tiger). What I meant to say is that it's running ITunes 9.1, not 10.0. I get an error message when I hook up the iphone 4 that it can't sync with that ITunes version.

Yes iOS 4.x needs iTunes 10.x and iTunes 4.2 (any day) needs iTunes 10.2 (last week)

Go to iTunes
In the iTunes menu, find "Check for updates"
It should find you need an update, download it, and install it.

Thanks, that makes sense now.
Yes, you need iTunes 10, and for that you need OS X 10.5 (being the latest
you can run on a PPC Mac). Is that an option or do you only have Intel
versions of 10.5 or 10.6?
If you share the G5's iTunes, can you access the apps on one of the
MacBooks?

The Imac G5 isn't intel based, and I don't want to get OS 10.5 for it if there's an easier way. Please tell me how to share the G5's iTunes on my wifi network. I can see the G5 on my Macbooks, and can transfer files back and forth, but don't know where to find the ITunes apps files on the G5. Could you please walk me through that?

I did that, and now the Macbook Pro will recognize both iphones correctly. The problem of transferring files from the Imac G5 through my wifi network can be solved if you please let me know where they're located on that machine.

Yes, I realise that the G5 is not Intel, which is why I said that 10.5 is
the latest you can run on a PPC Mac. ;)
2 things to try.
1. You have file sharing enabled, so you should find the apps in G5 > Users
> Your user > Music > iTunes > iTunes Media > Mobile Applications. If you
have the older iTunes structure, it will be iTunes > iTunes Music > Mobile
Applications (I think!).
2. To share the iTunes library, on the G5 iTunes > Preferences > Sharing >
Share my library > Share entire library. On one of the MacBooks, iTunes >
Preferences > Sharing > Look for shared libraries. The G5's library should
then appear under Shared in the left sidebar. I don't know if this allows
apps to be shared, however.

I presume you mean the files located at <username>/Music/iTunes/iTunes Music

Calendars - events vs reminder
Posted by: "David Morganstein" drm0223@mac.com drm0223
Wed Nov 17, 2010 6:09 am (PST)
I use iCal on the Mac and sync events and reminders from several defined
calendars to my 3GS. I also sync my work Exchange Server calendar.
Usually I display only one of the iCal calendars and the Exchange calendar
on the 3GS, tho I can display others by selecting the iCal calendars I want
to see.
I notice that ANY reminder chimes and appears on the screen, regardless of
whether that calendar is displayed. This is not what I would like.
I have a calendar called Home, for instance, that is contains actions (like
turning certain programs on or off) and is meant only for my desktop
machine. I never display those events on the 3GS. However, their reminders
go off like clock work.
Is there a way to prevent events from nondisplayed calendars from
triggering?

You can choose which calendars to sync in iTunes. Are you syncing Home even
though you don't actually want it on the iPhone?

Re: Calendars - events vs reminder

Thu Nov 18, 2010 3:00 am (PST)
Thank Otto. On the one hand, I know I can choose which calendars to sync in
iTunes.
However, I don't have any calendars selected to sync in iTunes. The check box
Sync iCal Calendars is not checked in the Info tab. Dimmed out, the radio
button for my mac.com account is selected, I imagine because I've turned on
Calendars in on my 3GS in the MobileMe account settings. (iTunes has the
statement "Your calendars are being synced over the air..." in the INFO tab
under Sync iCal Calendars section).
In Calendars, all my iCal subcalendars, like Home, appear as options for
display, along with the Exchange calendar. I can select any or all of them
for display.
However, I want to disable the Alarms on the Home calendar. I don't see any
option in iCal, in MobileMe or on the 3GS to turn off Home's Alarms. My only
option has to do with Display the events.
Other ideas?
