On a Mac you use iPhoto as default it opens and you drag them into a folder.

When you plug your iPhone/iPod Touch into the computer, it should show up in your file manager (Windows Explorer in Windows, Finder in MacOS) as a camera. From there you can drag and drop your Camera Roll photos
onto your computer.

IMO it's a glaring omission that iTunes does not sync these onto the
computer for you. It syncs onto the computer other media content that
is created/retrieved directly on the device, so why not photos too?

I agree with you, Jeffrey Kaplan. I lost some iPhone photos until I realized they weren't synced like other things.

You're right, I mis-spoke, it does not sync Camera Roll photos.

But that is the incorrect, but commonly meaning of sync or copy photos from the iPhone.

I'm sorry, my iPhone does not show up on my Mac in Finder, and Camera Roll does not show up in iTunes.

Worked fine when I had a company PC, but not on my personal Mac.

As far as the glaring omission, Apple has not had the best track record for syncing photo over the years. And everyone seems to want to keep their photos in various places since many do not use iPhotos. iPhotos is not a free app. With the early iPhoto sync problems, I don't trust it.

Jean,

I'm not positive this will solve your issue but try this. If you go
to iCal (I'm assuming you use the Mac) in the preference pane, under
General you should see a checkbox for showing the birthday calendar.
If this is checked, you can uncheck and it should go away from iCal
as well as Mobile Me.

These dates come from the Address Book where you can put in the
birthday of your contacts. There may also be another way to enable
it directly on the phone so if you want to fix the dates you should
be able to do it from the Address Book.

Hope that is the issue and you can fix it using my limited knowledge.

Regards,

Jay

I have the blue skin for my Otterbox, and I got an Otter for the iPad as well.

The Otter iPad is almost 90 on their website, but I got it at Amazon.com for $50.00

Hi Bruce,

You can setup an iPhone or Touch to work with Windows Live Calendar and
supposedly sync two devices to the same calendar using Microsoft Exchange
ActiveSync. I haven't tried either so I can't verify it.

The steps to do it are below are from the WIndows Live website along with
some known issues for the iOS devices.

Cheers,
Chris

http://windowslivehelp.com/solution.aspx?solutionid=46bd910c-ed99-497d-80d7-ab8b11237ed0

*iPhone Setup
*
The steps are similar for the iPhone, iPod Touch and the iPad. On a device
that supports only a single ActiveSync profile, make sure to back up the
data on the device before configuring the ActiveSync profile for Hotmail
access.

1. Tap on Settings. Under Settings, click on "Mail, Contacts, Calendar".
2. Tap on "Add Account" in the Accounts page.
3. Tap on "Microsoft Exchange" to configure Hotmail access.
4. Enter your full Hotmail email address in both Email and Username fields.
Leave Domain blank. Enter your password. In the Description field, enter a
name, e.g Hotmail.
5. Enter m.hotmail.com for the Server name.
6. If access succeeds, you will see this page. Select the data to sync. Tap
on Save.

*Exchange ActiveSync - Known Issues **- iPhone/iPad/iPod Touch

Mail*
• iPhone is unable to download large attachments beyond 20MB. User will get
a message that the attachment is too large to download when trying to sync a
message with too large an attachment.
• Some attachments in messages synced to the iPhone may not download
successfully. Apple Support Article: http://support.apple.com/kb/TS1506
• Messages forwarded from a Windows Mobile 6.1 device and viewed on an
iPhone cannot be viewed successfully. The original message is included as an
attachment and cannot be opened.
*
Calendar*
• When syncing multiple calendars, the user may see some shared calendars
that are read-only. User cannot add an event to a read-only calendar; the
action will fail. On the iPhone, the event added to the read-only calendar
will be deleted automatically and on some other devices, the device may
retain a client copy. This is the client's discretion.
• Attendee cannot view a Meeting Request on iPhone if the meeting invite is
an ".ics" attachment.
• When attendee changes RSVP status to a meeting invite, e.g. from Tentative
to Accept, the attendee's Busy status is not updated on the server. This is
due to the command used by the iPhone to update the attendee's RSVP status
to the server.

Tasks*
• Tasks are not supported.

hello,

this is very helpful, thanks for clarifying.
how do you deal with camera roll photos ? do they get restored as well ?
it is very unclear to me, what is backed-up or not when syncing through itunes.

thanks,

Battery usage.

If you have 3G enabled, it uses power even if you are using wifi. Similarly,
if wifi is enabled it uses power even if you are using 3G. Is there any
reason to have *both* enabled at the same time?

It would be an obvious advantage to have a single setting that toggles
between the 2, but they are not even in the same level in Preferences.

The reason for turning off 3G is to conserve battery, not data usage. Edge data usage still goes against your total data usage.

Otto;

I don't claim to be an expert on the iPhone or iOS but it is not logical that having 3G enabled while on WiFi would have any noticeable impact on battery. While it is true that while on 3G ( or even edge ) the iOS is looking for WiFI anytime it is enabled so it will likely have some impact on battery, I "always" have both enabled because I have yet to see a real impact on battery life. I travel a lot as my job and my iPhone is in an ever changing environment and I find it more useful to let the iOS do it's job instead of trying to micro manage it.

I am looking at moving from a laptop to a Netbook computer because it's getting harder for me to handle my laptop. I have an illness that is attacking my arms and hands.

Does anyone know if iTunes would have any problem using a Netbook computer?? I am looking at
1 "Acer Aspire One AO532H-2575 10.1 Inch Netbook (Silver Matrix)"

Which I found on Amazon. Thanks for any help.

iTunes will work fine but Netbooks typically don't have a lot of storage
space and low power USB ports so you might have trouble charging and syncing
iPhone at same time, iPad definitely would require too much power.

I have an Acer, and it works fine with iTunes and charging an iPhone. I don't sync the iPhone to it. It won't charge an iPad.

I have a Gateway Notebook, that is in the 10" range. It runes iTunes very well and charges my iPhone fine. Never tryed to charge an iPad. My gateway has plenty of disk and RAM. In fact more of both than many laptops.
