It's more mystique than anything. Apple uses the exact same hardware
parts that HP, Dell, Gateway, Asus, etc, use. The only hardware
difference is the casing. CPU? Intel. Graphics? ATI. Hard drive?
Seagate or Western Digital. Etc. There is a reason you can install
and boot Windows natively on an Apple these days.

Apple prices are higher because Apple has a monopoly on the brand and
as part of the mystique.

Brand name building is an exercise in giving right specifications
And ensuring quality (in hardware as well as system and application
Software). I switched from Blackberry Storm I to iPhone 4, after having done battery pull every third day and replacing battery
twice in less than 2 years.

But even when downloading a large file on wifi and thus
completely busy, one can still receive a call on 3G.

Correct. You simply use the old low bandwidth cell network. The first iPhone
did not even have 3G capability, of course.

Yes, but you don't need 3G for calls (or SMS). The old (non-3G) system is
100% sufficient for this.

Yes I am. It turns out that the problem was not in the iTunes update. It is
in a Microsoft update that loaded at the same time as I was updating iTunes.
Still have not figured out which part of the update is at fault.

DHL fraud letter

Posted by: "Calle's Yahoo" calle_kitten@yahoo.com   calle_kitten

Hi all. I have been expecting my much discussed netbook to be delivered any day. I got an email from DHL saying there was something wrong with my shipment and I should open an attachment. I trashed them both, because I thought they were fraudulent.

Then today hubby was really pushing me about where the shipment was. Long story short, I ended up clicking on the attachment. It said open in File Ap Pro and then it went away.

Should I be worried now about any information or a virus on my phone? I should always listen to my gut!!

I didn't think you could get a virus on the phone.

You could check status of your shipment through the site of where you bought it.

I've not gotten a direct email from a shipper ... the vendor sends the shipping info.

I don't know anything about phone viruses -- but I have been getting a lot of fake DHL/UPS/FedEx emails over the last few months. Do NOT open attachments when you have any doubts about the sender!

Hi,
I got one of these emails from FedEx but did not open the attachment as I was not expecting any packages. I get all my uni text books delivered through TNT. My DH, who works with computers and iPhones, warns NOT to open any of these attachments as your iPhone could definately get a virus (if that's what the attachment is), so please, take care.

Why do you call it a fraud letter?

If you are expecting a DHL delivery, either go to the merchant for a tracking number and/or check directly with DHL if you already have it.

There is supposedly a virus your iPhone can now catch, but you have to click on a link or install an app to get it.

Don't ever click on a link in an email!!! Open your browser, either manually type in the URL, or use one of your personal bookmarks to the company, and then navigate to whatever information you want to check out.

The hackers seen out vague emails with bogus links that look like valid sites. If they sent out 100k emails, chances are that some recipients will have an account and may even have a current transaction going on. It is obvious when it is from a bank not in your region, but if it pretends to be from your bank, the iTunes store, DHL it may be harder to tell if it is a fake.

So.... Don't ever click on a link in an email, not even if it appears to be from a friend! (Your friend could have been hacked.)

USB dongle

Posted by: "Calle's Yahoo" calle_kitten@yahoo.com   calle_kitten

Sun Nov 14, 2010 12:54 pm (PST)

Hi all. My husband and I live in RV parks exclusively. Our Internet was pretty good but they changed it and now it sucks.

I signed up for a USB modem from AT&T. We both have 3Gs phones. Hubby is able to satisfy almost all his needs through his phone. I have him on the limited plan of 2Gig for $30.00. I am still on unlimited.

The USB modem was free after a rebate and I get 5 Gig a month for $60.00 a month. I had a 3rd phone line that the contract had just ended. So I upgraded to this USB dongle.

My primary usage is playing games online -card games. I have been playing with the same friends for 20 years.

Is this a good deal? I have been pleased with it so far.

I have about two more weeks to try this before I have to return it or keep it.

Any comments or suggestions are welcome.

Depends.
If you get great ATT reception where you travel, then stick with ATT. If
you want to have the option of using a different network maybe you want
to consider-
Verizon has a MiFi unit that allows you to have a WiFi hotspot that can
be used by up to 5 things, -computers, iPhone, iPads at a time. 5GB for
$50-60, 2 year contract.
Sprint has it's MiFi for the same 5GB $50-60, 2 year. Virgin Mobile has
their MiFi, unlimited use!, no contract, for $40 a month. Even though
Virgin Mobile uses the Sprint towers it does not have full Sprint
coverage. Look at the coverage maps in detail where you will use. They
go to street level.

I have no experience with the USB or MiFi units, but keep looking at
them for use with the various iDevices and the laptops when traveling or
our power goes out. Pretty expensive for a toy though. Prices seem to be
jumping around a little. I see pricing of $50 for 5GB and $59.99 for 5GB
from the same company but am not clear what the difference is.

Don't you have the option to tether an iPhone to your laptop for less
money than the USB?

You can always give it back in before your period is up and keep doing
research.

Maybe there are better lists for cheapest, best data plans.

Let us know what you find.

That is the most important part, reception where you will be using it. Everything else is secondary

Why was the WiFi changed? Can you change it back?

Same thing with Facebook (don't use the app) I can't click on login. Nor does the website come up. Only thing I can click on is the logout button. Could someone explain? Explain what you are doing in a little more detail, so we might be able to figure out a solution for you.

Are you using Safari and in the right search window? Or have you gone to google.com with Safari or another web browser and on the google web page? Has the page fully loaded or is it still loading?

Same thing with Facebook (don't use the app) I can't click on login. Nor does the website come up. Only thing I can click on is the logout button. Could someone explain? Or has anyone else experienced?

No I go to google with safari. The page fully come up. I can click on images and all other options. It's just the search function doesn't work. When I input something to search amd them click the magnifying glass. Nothing happens. It's as if it's locked out or greyed out. Everything else on the screen works. Same with facebook. When I try to hit the login button it doesn't work. Nor does the page fully come up
