RE: [apple-iphone] Re: iOS4 Tethering
There's a App called SpeedTest.net on the App Store. And on my 16GB 3gs
with os 4.0 speeds are all over the place. Just ran the test several times
in a row and got the following download speeds (MB/Sec)
2.27,2.69,3.18,2.27,3.35,2.27,2.55,2.57,3.14. Upload speeds are pretty
consistent, in the .28 to .33 mb/s range, much slower than he was getting,
go figure. Charlotte, NC area

Jim, your data speeds are super.
Could you tell us what you are using to test them? Which app are you using?
Are you testing on the iphone or the computer?
I can not find a speed test app or location called Speednet. I am finding a
ISP called that. Earlier you said that you were using SpeedTest on your
iPhone 4, is that still correct?
I seriously find it hard to believe that you are getting speeds faster than
your DSL on cellular "using 3G out here in the farm country north of
Baltimore". You're getting better speeds than I get in metro Portland, OR or
metro Denver, CO. (Of course, AT&T cellular coverage in Denver and all of CO
draws wind.)
The reason I ask is that you are seeing about 2.5 times my best download
speeds I am seeing on my 3GS and about 8 times my upload speeds, on 3G. In
fact your upload is twice my uploads on my 3GS using WiFi from my cable. I
was using SpeedTest Pro on my 3GS.
If you are getting these speeds great, I just find it incredible, because
those are major improvements.
Have they improved the chips in the iPhone 4 that much over the 3GS? If they
have improved the iPhone 4 and the AT&T network that much, fantastic,
because I would not suggest tethering __on a 3GS__ unless it was absolutely
necessary and there were no other choice.
