Restore restores the phone to factory settings (with the newest firmware
available) - it is like formatting and reinstalling software on your
computer - a clean slate so to speak. Doing a Restore then restoring your
backup is going to bring back all of the problems you had before. If you
have no problems then an Update and restoring the backup is fine but
eventually it will cause problems, maybe not this release, maybe not the
next, maybe not 5.0 but eventually a Restore as new will be needed and it is
usually not done until it is taken to an Apple store and they tell you that
it has to be done.
