If they are buying a iPhone 4 to replace an older phone the old (regular) SIM gets shut down when they activate the Mini in the new phoneme. You can't use the Mini in a device that needs a regular, unless you have a holder. They are currently not available in the US. You can get them from Brandi in Hong Kong or from somewhere outside North America where the Minis or cut-downs have been in use for years.
