I came to the same conclusion, especially with the settings set to show 200 messages to keep up with the volume on this list the first few days of the iPhone 4 and iOS 4.

And I am starting to believe that my battery drain was from using a BT keyboard that would time out after 3 minutes and leave my iPhone 3GS to search for it. When I am in known areas of bad cell reception, I know that searching for a signal will drain the battery.
