Primarily, if you ever need another SIM card (lost, broken, cruded up, etc)
you can have a spare not have to pay AT&T $15 for one. Also, they can be
used by 'hackers' to "clone" numbers, use other peoples accounts, etc - once
you are issued a SIM card the ID on it is linked to you even if you
discontinue using it so if Joe Schmoe picks it up off the street and figures
out a way to reactivate it, still in your name as the last registered owner.
Personally, I have had the same SIM card in all of my iPhones - I just
popped it out, put it in new phone and sold old phone - a legitimate buyer
will be supplying their own SIM card whether it is with AT&T Post Paid or
via an unlocking of the phone (AT&T Pre Paid, T-Mobile Pre or Post paid).
