Unless you want other people to use your number as theirs! Man, that's catastrophic. I've been there.

Better to remove the sim card, to avoid posible misuse. You never know what
was stored in the memory of the sim and I believe there are ways to recover
data even if you had deleted personal info from sim (like any other storage
media)
