Good to know it works without the extra hardware.
The problem for me with a US only map is that my company sometimes send me into Canada. So I buy the US and Canada versions.
After flying into Winnipeg the first time, I got directions like this, "Take the Canadian highway east, at the exit past county route #, take a left, and then take a left at the first tree." That is why I use GPS and maps, beside giving me an estimate of how much time I need to drive out to a job site. Yes, it was a wide spot in the middle of the road with no street signs, but had a street name if I was mailing them a letter.
