Did he pay full price for the phone or did he somehow get it at a discount
and still be able to do this?

ISTR hearing that you could get the iPhone on month-to-month if you
paid full price for it, but never checked into it. Of course, if you
cancelled the plan you wouldn't be able to use the phone as a phone, it'd
just be a nice iTouch+ I guess....

All in all, it sounds like he wants an iPhone but he doesn't want to play by
the same rules the rest of us in the US have to use.
