Thanks for your suggestions, Vic.
I tried those options -- no luck.
Surprisingly, the phone *did* connect to a charger for about 30 mins this afternoon and I was able to get some juice into the phone. But then the charge cycle ceased and nothing seems to revive it.
The small sliver of good news in all of this is that I sync'ed last night so there is an up-to-date backup on my Mac.

Figure I'll be making a drive in the next couple of days.
