Hey i'm new to this group, and hope the more experienced iphone users can
help answer a quedtion i have. I'm currently with AT&T,and will be able
to upgrade my phone selection in a couple months, what i'm wondering is
the iphone really the best choice for a smart phone,i download a lot of
music,i also use my phone as much if not more than my putar, also
download videos form you tube, and other sorces, does the iphone do well
with this, how about e mails, would i have any trouble viewing photos from
people,or sending images.Currently i have a sony ericson w760i,it is a
good phone that served me well, but i feel i've out grown it,as most know
the type of video that can be down loaded is limited,as well as e mail
and such.My wife has an HTC tilt, from AT&T wich shes very unhappy
with,it does things like switch pages in the middle of an e mail and
will lose the text for example, now were stuck with it untill the next
upgrade for her,i don't want to make that mistake.A friend i knew had a
iphone and once told me she she wished she could get the Android,i think
she couldn't do google searches,i'm not sure,but that's another
question, can one do google or yahoo searches from an iphone, thats
somthing else i do alot of .Well thats most of my questions,i sure hope
you guys can help, Thank You vrey much,Mike.............

The iPhone 4 will not only do all that you want but also blow your mind away. Btw I love your stream of consciousness style of expression!

Generally a new model of the iPhone is released in June, so if it will be a couple of months before you can upgrade your phone, perhaps you might want to wait a couple of months more and get the next model.

Just a thought.

Google searches do well on iPhone. Vocal searches using the google app work.

I know it's not a necessity and people do it different ways, but I think iPhone works best with an apple computer and a mobileme account.

Switch to Verizon? [POLL] via Mashable! by Christina Warren on 1/10/11

Now that Tuesday's Verizon iPhone announcement is all but assured, what
will the impact be on current AT&T iPhone customers?

With the latest rumors indicating that Verizon's version of the iPhone
will be available in late January, we know that plenty of Mashable
readers will be contemplating making the move to a carrier with — let's
just say — fewer connectivity issues.

Of course, the wireless companies never make this easy. As Mashable's
Ben Parr pointed out yesterday, the Verizon iPhone might not spell
immediate disaster for AT&T, if only because of the high early
termination fees.

AT&T charges an ETF of $325 for smartphone owners who enter into
two-year service agreements. However, AT&T reduces the amount of the
ETF $10 for every month a customer is in their agreement. That means
that if an AT&T customer signed a new two-year agreement in June 2010
(for the iPhone 4), it may be possible to shave $60 off that $325
figure if he or she cancels the account in February.

Of course, for AT&T customers who are at their breaking point with the
carrier's notoriously shoddy coverage, the price — any price — might be
worth leaving the fold for possibly greener pastures.

At CES 2011, AT&T proved once again that it cannot manage a large load
of smartphone-using, data-munching customers congregated in one area.
To be fair, Verizon's data connections were also slow, but at least
most of those phones could make and receive phone calls.

Last fall, we polled Mashable readers on their interest in a Verizon
iPhone. The results were clear — 58% of respondents said they were
interested in an iPhone on the nation's largest carrier.

In that poll, the majority of "yes" respondents were current Verizon
customers. This time, we'd like to poll existing iPhone owners (though
non-iPhone owners can feel free to vote as well). Are you going to
switch carriers to get a Verizon iPhone?

I don't plan on switching. Once everyone who plans on jumping ship does so, I am
hoping it makes it better for the rest of us.
Also, as stated earlier by someone else, I need the roll over minutes AT&T has
which Verizon doesn't have. That's a big plus.

The new iPhone from Verizon creates a wi-fi hotspot, PLUS their unlimited
data plan. I've always really resented AT&T forcing iPhone customers to pay
extra for tethering when it was available at no extra charge for all their
other phones. I've also had numerous various problems with AT&T over the
years, including a lot of dropped calls, whereas my husband's work supplied
Verizon phone has had excellent coverage in the same areas. The other thing
we've noticed is that even in areas where we're both getting several bars,
his connection is noticeably faster than mine.

We spend a lot of time at my parents' home in rural southern Indiana, where
the best Internet choice we've found was a Verizon MiFi card. The
connection has been excellent and reliable, but obviously we're paying extra
for it. The DH and I are trying to decide whether the savings and the
advantages outweigh the early termination fee. We still have several months
left on the MiFi contract, so assuming that Verizon is still offering the
unlimited data plan at that time, there's a very good chance I will switch.

I just dropped Verizon because all I ever hear is they get the best signal of all but at work people with AT&T walk around using their phones all over the place while I have to stick my head out of a door or window to get one.The only gripe i have is that last week I bought my Iphone 3gs for $105.00 and now i see that they are $49.00.

Are you in the DC area?

Eons ago, VZ wired the Metro on some kind of deal. There are current efforts
underway to upgrade/expand to other carriers & in some stations it's already
done. But VZ is the only one that works in the tunnels. This has been
reported in the press so it's no secret if it ever was.

(I remember the early days of Metrorail -- even the police radios didn't
work underground until they installed some kind of ?whatever? equipment.)

Hmmm

Not sure I have this right. But does this mean vz iPhone 4 can tether on unlimited data

I am guessing this says a laptop with wifi can use vz iPhone ?

That could be a draw if I have it right

Also iPads as well? No need to get $14.99 plan for iPad?

Do I have that right?

Sent from my AT&T wireless device!

The Verizon iPhone will have a "3G Hotspot" aka a MyFi / MiFi that allows
you to connect up to 5 WiFi devices simultaneously. I currently do this
with my Droid Incredible and is incredibly easy, I tap turn on and every
WiFi device sees the hot spot, I enter the password that I set up and it
connects and I have internet connectivity - so yes you can drop your iPad
data plan and use it to connect your laptop, your iPad, anything that can
pick up a WiFi signal.

The Verizon iPhone

Been in testing for a year...

We've waited and waited, and now Apple and Verizon have made a million
dreams come true: the iPhone is coming to Big Red. After talking up his
new LTE network a bit, Verizon CEO Lowell McAdam confirmed a CDMA
(non-LTE) version of the iPhone 4 is coming to Verizon Wireless next
month. Talks started way back in 2008, and the phone has been in
testing for a year -- it sounds like they wanted to get this one right.
Current Verizon customers will be able to pre-order on Feburary 3rd for
the standard $200 price for the 16GB model on a two year agreement,
$300 for the 32GB version -- everyone else can order on February 10th
(see it compared with AT&T's iPhone 4). Just to clarify and put any
wild rumors to bed, the phone is Verizon 3G (EV-DO) only, no 4G data or
GSM roaming. It's not a world phone or an AT&T + Verizon phone, it's
just a Verizon phone.

Outside of Verizon connectivity, the phone is basically unchanged,
although Verizon's CDMA network doesn't support simultaneous voice and
data as with the GSM version. It does have the new antenna design we
were hearing about last week, but that's just because CMDA requires a
different configuration of antennas. (Apple says they didn't go LTE
just yet because first-gen chipsets would force unwanted design
decisions, and customers want a Verizon device now.) That slight
modification also equates to a slight bump in where the volume buttons
and mute switch -- a new case might be required. Software-wise the big
innovation is five user WiFi hotspot functionality, something that's
standard on Android phones, while Apple has kept the iPhone only able
to tether directly to one computer.

Check out our full hands-on with the Verizon iPhone right here, and
stay tuned -- we've got lots more coming up.

I hope that the hot spot is ported to the iOS on AT&T also as I can't give up data and phone at the same time.
