I entirely agree that Pocket Informant turns the iPhone/iPod Touch into a truly useful PDA. I gave up using my Palm TX only after discovering Pocket Informant (PI).
By syncing with Google Calendar, I can also sync all appointments to my networked office PC, which runs MS Outlook. My secretary thus knows exactly when I'm free and when I'm not, and she can set up new appointments in MS Outlook that then appear on PI.
Because both PI and Google Calendar will subdivide appointment calendars into "work" and "personal," my work calendar is not cluttered with my personal appointments. I also use the category tags for my appointments. PI helps to make the Blackberry phones obsolete.

Hmm....wasn't paying attention to this thread much...UNITL u mentioned the palm.
My BIG BIG question is this....do I still have to click on calendar to get it to
open...or will it automatically be there in the forefront like the palm?
If I don't have to remember to keep clicking on the calendar, it would make my
life so much nicer... :)
Thanks!

To open a program, any program, you always have "click on it". Even
(especially?) on a Palm. The difference there is that Palm has a
hardware button that is defaulted to the calendar (which can be
changed). On the iPhone, you can place any four apps you want into
the App Dock, which serves the same function. My iPod Touch has
Music, Calendar, ListPro and Settings there.

Thanks Jeffrey, The tray/app dock at the bottom [to me anyway] is similar to how the calendar is. It's the first icon on my first page but I guess I like how the palm did it. oh well. I still like the informant though...and I do believe that I read on their website that it can now sync to the iCal program. :)

Regardless, there is much anticipation on how many people will leave AT&T for Verizon Wireless because of AT&Tâs lagging on app restrictions like Slingplayer and Google Voice and Skype (on 4g network, not Wi-Fi).

iPhone 4 question

I have an iPhone 4 and will be traveling to New Zealand with it. The is a company there called 2 Degrees that offers a prepaid SIM card that will allow me to use their 3G network to make calls and get email, etc. Can I just put it into my iPhone replacing the AT&T SIM card or do I need to "unlock" it which I don't want to do!

Phone will probably need to have a carrier unlock.
Thanks,

Also, the iPhone4 uses a micro-sim card, not the same one the rest of the world uses. Make sure they offer this smaller format. Regular SIMs can be trimmed AND I suspect 2 Degrees might not want you to do that.

1. It will need a micro-SIM, not a standard one.
2. Why do you not want to unlock your phone?

Sent to you by Bill Boulware via Google Reader: No more restocking fees
at Apple Stores starting January 11 via 9 to 5 Mac by Mark Gurman on
1/9/11
Typically, when you return an opened product to an Apple Store you will
be charged a 10% restocking fee. Well, come Tuesday, this will all be
in the past as Apple is cutting restocking fees from their retail
chain. Weâll have to see how Apple deals with people trying to return
their scratched up iPods and what the policy with iPhones will be. The
14 day return period still applies but for example if you purchase a 16
GB iPad and use it for 3 days, then want to upgrade to the 32 GB model,
you wonât need to pay an additional 10% restocking fee. Oh, and January
11th?

iPhone GPS

Hi everyone, I'm new new to the iPhone and smart phones in general, I went to AT&T and ordered an iPhone 3. The first thing I want to learn is about the iPhone GPS. I have a Garmin GPS and the last time I went to Chicago I used my Garmin and it worked fine until I got deep downtown and lost the satellite signal in the maze of buildings and caught hell til I finally got one.I was told by a friend that his iPhone didn't have this problem there because it also works off cell phone towers. I can see how this is possible, the problem is there are several different apps for this, from free on up and I don't know which one is best for this kind of situation, I don't want to pay top dollar when a lesser app will do.

Presumably a 3GS
> I have a Garmin GPS and the last time I went to Chicago I used my Garmin and it worked fine until I got deep downtown and lost the satellite signal in the maze of buildings and caught hell til I finally got one.
I have had GPS units for about 13 years. 2 different Garmins, and 2 different built-ins.
I haven't had the problem you describe, even on Lower Wacker Drive.
> I was told by a friend that his iPhone didn't have this problem there because it also works off cell phone towers.
For just over 1 year, I have had the TomTom (USA & Canada) App, and this is now my only GPS unit. My Garmin Nuvi lives in my wife's car.
This App is one of the expensive ones, but the reason is that you are purchasing complete maps of all of North America (excluding Central America), along with point of interest. That makes it about 1.5 GB.
> I can see how this is possible, the problem is there are several different apps for this, from free on up and I don't know which one is best for this kind of situation, I don't want to pay top dollar when a lesser app will do.
I also have some good but inexpensive Apps, like MotionX GPS, which download maps over the Wifi or cellular network as needed.
As for location by cell tower, well, it's nowhere near as accurate as a GPS fix.
