Re: [apple-iphone] Thoughts on the new iPad

It wasn't supposed to be.
> -Not a device that I can replace my PC with (i.e. run all the programs that I cannot with the iPhone, that I need a computer for).
Ditto.
> -Not able to sync my iPhone to iTunes with the iPad - still need a computer.
Not a problem for me in ANY way.
> -Extra fee for 3G usage - and why get it without 3G if you can take it with you.
Game-changing CHEAP fee for 3G use. Why should you expect NOT to pay for adding 3G?
> -No stereo speakers, just mono sound. Most laptops have stereo; who wants to watch a fantastic movie like Star Trek (the one Apple uses in their advertisement) in mono?
Why would you want to watch a fantastic movie and listen on the iPad's internal speaker? Use headphones. In stereo.
> -No way to hook up an external hard drive (which is moot since it doesn't have many of the capabilities that you need the drive for anyway).
I *really would like to see either an ExpressCard slot or, more likely, and SDHC slot.
> -No way to hook up a CD drive (to import CDs into your iTunes).
It isn't a full-fledged computer, as you have noted; it SYNCS with your full-fledged computer. THAT'S where the CD drive is.
> I am really wanting to go completely Mac, and I would like a device that I could replace a PC with completely.
MacBook/MacBook Pro.
> Basically, I am thinking that if I had an iPad, I wouldn't need an iPhone (blasphemy) or iPod touch; just a regular cellphone for phone use, the iPad for surfing and email, and a PC/Mac computer for syncing.....
I have my iPhone with me at all times. In a restaurant, my wife asks when one of our dogs was born, I can look that up in Bento. The lawyer calls to check if Monday is okay for the deposition, I can check it in Calendar.
I probably wouldn't be taking the iPad with me everywhere I AM taking the iPhone.
