I had that happen as well.

As near as I can tell, it's the iPhone equivalent of having no free RAM
on a desktop.

There are two things to try, one drastic, one not so much. I hope the
non-drastic works for you.

Non-drastic: Do a reboot of your iPhone. Hold down the top power button
until a "slide to turn off" appears on your screen, then slide it. That
completely turns off your iPhone, and should clear RAM. Wait a few
minutes, then power up again.

Drastic: Connect to iTunes, and reset your phone to factory settings,
then re-synch your apps, music, etc.
