I use mobileme and its near instantaneous for me too.

have you tried an app like pixelpipe to see if they go out faster that
way? twitter or facebook to see if they post faster that way? just to
attempt to see if its the phone or the service.

gmail is free. so it may be a good choice.

how often does your iPhone check for emails? is it push? is it every
day?

are you referring to the email on your iphone or computer, you didnt
specify. my response was about the iphone mail.app.
