RE: [apple-iphone] Bottom part of touch screen doesn't respond
In almost all electronics, voltage needs to remain as close as possible to
the target spec.
So a 5.0v device needs to have as close to that as possible.
The current is the amount of power the device is drawing. The current
rating, such as you list below as 1000mAh or mA is the amount of capacity
the device can put out. The higher the number the higher the capacity of the
device. You can hook up a freaking car battery to a phone and as long as the
voltage is right, it wont hurt the device. Also keep in mind 1000mAh is = to
1A
As far as it being 5 or 5.3 volts, I am not sure what the actual tolerances
of the iphone are, but the .3v shouldn't be enough to harm the device.
With both of those devices, they are still external batteries acting as
power supplies to your device. Charging a battery with a battery is not very
efficient but its possible.
With those devices, they plug into the data / charging port of your iPhone
and if memory serves me correct, theres voltage regulating circuitry in
there to keep the input voltage from spiking or droping and hurting your
device.
Now if you bought a battery to put INSIDE your device, the you have to be
more carefull about the voltage matching, but the reality is the device
still has certain tolerances to higher or lower voltage. Its never really
constant for a long period of time. As the battery looses power, it will
drop voltage, even though it still works.
It looks like to me, the 2nd device has 2 USB outputs limited to 500 mAh,
for a total combined out put of 1000mAh .
Computers are the same way, they are designed for 5V at 500mAh.
Now some devices slow and rapid charge. Some HTC devices come to mind, so
500mAh might not be enough to charge a battery, so this company looks like
they solved the issue by giving 2 ports.
The first shows 600mAh output but looks like just 1 output. So a device
looking for say 750mAh might not charge properly because the current is
insufficient to charge it. I think the Palm Pre comes with a 1000mAh
charger. That's a good example.
Hope this helped. If not email me back.. LOL

Patrick, since you do iPhone repair, I am in hopes that you can
help me here. I want to find an external battery supply for my
iPhone 3GS but the ones that I have been looking at have had
numbers that have left some questions for me, mostly like, will
this over or underpower my phone. Apple will not tell me what
the minimum and maximum Voltages or Amperages are for the 3GS, so
I have been googeling and finding very little. Since all of these
batteries are based on USB that puts them at 5 volts or just a tad
higher none that I have seen are over 5.3 volts. But then the
next bit of info says
This is an IMP500 to see more go to

- Nominal input: DC 5.0V/1,000 mA
- Nominal output: DC 5.0V/600 mA
- Capacity: 5,000 mAh/3.7V
The CP506 will say:
Output Voltage: DC 5.3V
Output Current: 1A max
Double USB output, each output current: 500mA

This seems to be conflicting info to me since these are both 5000
mAh batteries, and although the numbers are different, so are the
parameters, yet are they both the same? And in addition, will
either one or both hurt my iPhone?
I know that the Mophie is iPhone/Apple approved and I have one,
plus I have two Mili units which are virtually the same as the
Mophie, but these are just not large enough for what I need to do.
I need as Tim Allen would say, "More Power" but I am looking for
an economical way to do it with out hurting my phone. Could you
possibly shed some light on this for me please?
Thank you
Kelly

I find that hard to believe.
I have fixed many iPhones and the Home button is not attached to
any long
cable. It has 2 contacts that touch directly on the board.
Its possible the touchscreen could be a result of the cable
becoming
partially attached. That device is segmented so if a vertical or
horizontal
section went out that's more likely a cable issue, or even
software issue.
Let us know if a power cycle fixes it.

I posted on this once earlier this year. My Home button stopped
working and the Apple Genius told me it was a disconnect of a
long
cable running most of the long dimension of the phone. He
reconnected
it and in ten minutes I was back to normal operation. However,
he also
said that mine was an unusual presentation of that cable
malfunction -
usually it presented as a complete or partial touchscreen
malfunction
as you describe. You might want to look into the cable as a
cause of
your partial touchscreen dysfunction.
