My husband's iPhone 4 had the same problem with Spam Emails showing up daily from dates like 1969! He called ATT and they told him to do a Reset, which did fix it. If it hadn't, they told him to try deleting the Email account from the phone and then resetting it up. If that didn't work either, they said to do a Restore from backup as the last resort. However, luckily, the first option fixed the problem. Hope this works for you too.
