Sound is perfect on mine - could be an AT&T problem or iPhone problem, try
doing a reset and trying phone with and without speakerphone then try
bluetooth again if all 3 of them the same 'static' then make an appointment
at the Apple Store...

There should be no static on the phone at all. With cheaper bluetooth's there
might be static.

Hello,

A week and a half ago I got the iPhone 4. While talking on the phone using a
bluetooth or directly into the phone, there is quite a bit of static. I don't
know if my phone is defective or if this is just part of the iPhone experience.
How is the phone sound quality for you?

voice mail message to "emailable" version

Posted by: "Bill Sardone" wsardone@optonline.net   wsardone

Sat Sep 25, 2010 7:06 am (PDT)

Team,

I have a lengthy voice mail message on my Iphone 4 from my Vet with detailed
recovery instructions for my dog. All good news!

I tried to forward the voice mail to my wife's Iphone 3G but did not
see/hear an option.

Is there a way to "download" that voice mail into a format that could be
emailed to her?

Thanks

Bill

Not sure why my reply to this did not go through. If you are on a Macintosh, there is a software package called phoneview that can be found via googling.

You can demo for 7 days and it has the capability of downloading the voicemail to your computer. The file will be mp4 format and can be emailed.

Hope this helps. If you are using PC, you might be able to find a similar product. I tried the demo for Mac and it worked fine. I have purchased software from this developer before and find them reliable products.

I am assuming that you and your wife are not in the same location. Otherwise you could just let your wife listen to the instructions. Why not have her call the Vet or ask the Vet to email the instructions to her?

I don't know of one app that will do that all, but there are apps that will convert voice to dictation, and others that will save the voice mail to your computer. How to pay it back to that say Dragon Dictation can convert it to a text file would be simple logistics.

I use PhoneView from ecamm.com, $20, to copy various things from the iPhone to my Mac, including voicemails, and call logs.

Restoring iPhone

I just got my new iPhone 4. Begining of Sept I had backed up my old iPhone. Now I want to restore using Sept back up but my iTunes does not show the back up as a choice to restore from.
I can see the back up file in my laptop folder, can anyone advice how can I get to view my Sept back up as a selection in my iTunes. Should the file be in some specific folder for iTunes to pick up from?
Thanks in advance.

Use three fingers and double tap on that zoomed screen. It should go to normal size. You have evidently set your zoom to ON in the settings>general>accessibility> zoom options.

You can turn the zoom OFF or remember that anytime you double tap with three fingers you will zoom and doing the same again gets it back to normal.

Hope this helps

iPhone Wi-Fi issues....

Posted by: "Charles" the_chuckmann@yahoo.com   the_chuckmann

Sat Sep 25, 2010 1:19 pm (PDT)

Details - IPhone 4. All updates done.

Problem: occasionally the connection will "hang". I'll be checking email - will start and not finish. Using Safari, page may start to open, then stall. Facebook app - same issue. eBay app - same issue.

Other Wi-Fi devices in the home do not do this - so it is not a router issue, I don't think.

How I fix it - go into iPhones settings. Turn Wi-Fi off, then back on. Now it works again. It may last a while (hours, a day perhaps, sometimes no more than 15 or 30 minutes), but eventually it will hang again.

Usually only 1 Wi-Fi device is connected at a time; it is password protected, so it's not others logging in, either.

Any ideas?

Oh, my old iPhone 3G didn't do this...

iPod starts playing randomly

Anyone have any suggestions on how to stop the iPod function to stop randomly playing? Sometimes my iPhone 4 is in my pocket and starts playing the last song I was playing. Sometimes I'm using another app and the music starts playing. Any thoughts?

This has happened to me, when I have played the ipod and not quit. You can double tap the home key, bringing up the icons that are being used by the multitasking capabilities of your iphone and press on the ipod icon until it wiggles and close it out by tapping the minus sign.

Do you have an app like an alarm clock that plays tunes that might be set somehow to start playing your iPod?

Another, scenario ... you accidentally hit the home button once that brings up the spotlight search window on the iPhone, where you have searched prior for a song and they are listed. Brushing one of the songs will start it to play. It seems this has also happened to me, when I have accidentally.

I ended up ordering the search choices under settings>General>spotlight search> You can move the order of search results with the triple bars on the right hand side or uncheck those you don't want to show up in the search. Move the music down in the list order and or try removing it from your spotlight search results if you don't need to search for songs.

The first thing I check when it happened was my alarms but nothing was set. I will try to reorder the spotlight search but I don't think that was it since I wasn't using the phone when it happened most recently. It was sitting on my lap with the screen black.

Also, it always plays the last song that I was playing. I've started making my sleep music be the last song before exiting the iPod app so at least when the music start playing, it's very quiet. :-)

Ping Now Works With Your Actual iTunes Library. This Is A Thousand T

Posted by: "Bill Boulware" bill.boulware@gmail.com   boulware0224

Sat Sep 25, 2010 5:03 pm (PDT)

Sent to you by Bill Boulware via Google Reader: Ping Now Works With
Your Actual iTunes Library. This Is A Thousand Times Better via
TechCrunch by MG Siegler on 9/25/10

It launched with much fanfare, but I don't think it was unreasonable to
call Ping a dud out of the gate. While pretty much everyone initially
signed up to try it out, a few days later, the activity stream seemed
to trickle to almost nothing. And there was a good reason for that:
Apple's social network for music made it very hard to share stuff — you
know, be social. But an update today makes it at least a thousand times
better.

iTunes 10.0.1 released this morning brings some big Ping updates with
it. Most notably, you can now use Ping with your own iTunes library.
Previously, you could only share songs on Ping through the iTunes Store
— a big difference. This basically meant that even if you already owned
a song, you had to hunt it down in the iTunes Store to share it. This
was almost laughably tedious, and it ensured that no one would use Ping
for more than a couple days.

But now when you load this iTunes, you'll see a Ping button next to
every song you own when it's highlighted in your library. Clicking this
button reveals a drop down menu which gives you the option to Like a
song, Post a song (put it in your Ping stream with a note), or see that
artist's profile on Ping. From this menu you also have the option to
find the artist, song, album, or genre in the iTunes Store. (Or you can
right-click on any song to see all of these options outside of the drop
down.)

If you use the Ping options in this drop down, you can socially share
any track you're actually listening to with the click of a button and
it will appear in your Ping stream for all your friends to see. Again,
a thousand times better.

The iTunes update also brings a new Ping sidebar which also gives you
the option to Like or Post any song you have highlighted from your
actual library. Below that, you'll see your Ping stream with all the
social activity from your Ping friends. From this sidebar, you can Like
or comment on any item in the stream. For the third time, a thousand
times better.

So is Ping perfect now? Of course not. There is still a ways to go as a
social network. But the first release was laughably anti-social as most
people spend time in iTunes listening to music they already own and not
shopping for new music — or trying to find music they already own to
share it via some convoluted method. Apple has fixed that.

The next step is for Apple to integrate with the broader social
networks — Facebook and Twitter (beyond their current lame way of
connecting) — to make their music social network truly viral. 160
million people already have access to iTunes Ping, but it's still
siloed within iTunes. Apple undoubtedly likes that because, well, they
like their walled gardens. And it makes any potential shopping
experience seamless. But if Ping is going to be a success, they need to
get these Ping Likes flowing into Facebook and Twitter too. As we're
all aware, Facebook doesn't have a music feature — this could be
Facebook's music feature. It could be awesome. Of course, the two sides
need to figure out their relationship.

Apple also needs to tweak iOS a bit now to get it up to speed with
these changes. While the Ping experience through iTunes on iOS was
already far superior than on the desktop, they should have a button to
Like or Share a song from the music player on iOS devices too. That
way, if you're listening to a song you own and you like it, it's one
click to share.

It would also be great if iTunes kept track of the music you actually
listen to (like plug-ins by Last.fm and other do) and give you the
option to share this data. That way, you don't have to explicitly share
all the time if you don't want to.

And yes, the new Ping still has some social issues with tracks not sold
through iTunes — as in, you can't share those because they don't exist
in Apple's database. But considering how big the library of tracks they
do have is, that's a relatively minor issue (aside from The Beatles, of
course).

Today's update is a solid first step to revive Ping from its early
grave.
