Re: [apple-iphone] Restore vs. Sync

I will try to clarify it, but I can not clear it up. That would require Apple to define the terms better and consistently, and every user, non-user and support person to then use the correct term every time. Believe me that is not going to happen.

Ok, here is where it gets muddy.

Within Restore there is:

Restore (within iTunes) as new
you have to set what you want synced on the device
Restore (within iTunes) from backup (or prior sync)
after a Restore or upgrade of OS
Restore from Backup
when your iDevice is connected to your computer, & you right click on the iDevice

Reset (on the iPhone)
sometimes called mistakenly as a restore
I understand this is like a remote erase and sets it to factory settings.
Remote Erase
sometimes called mistakenly as a restore, done with MobileMe

Within Sync there is:

Sync
when you connect you iDevice to your computer, this can be set to do automatically or manually, this
Sync
when your iDevice is connected to your computer, & you right click on the iDevice

Backup (when your iDevice is connected to your computer, & you right click on the iDevice )

Clear as mud, right?

From this day forward, everyone has to clearly use the correct term. ;0)

I am anally retentive about trying to use the correct term or defining it each use, most people are not. That is why I said, believe me this is not going to get cleared up. Hopefully you did find the above amusing if not helpful.
