- Manually back up your iphone,
- make sure you know where all the photos from your iPhone are and all the data created by your 3rd party is sync'd or backed up on your computer.
- PS, you have to separately back up your photos using either iPhoto or the app of your choice, iTunes does not do that for you.

- Then Restore as new, you __will lose__ all photos and other data on your iPhone.
- Then tell iTunes what to sync to your phone again.
- You will have to renter your settings, passwords, and bring over all the data created by your 3rd party apps...

But you should get better battery life and you should not be on the old AT&T transmission protocols.

Unrelated to battery life, to view the open apps, double click the Home button. This will bring up a "tray" of the sleeping apps. They are supposedly not supposed to be using resources. You can close them by click and hold on one. A minus will appear on the wiggling icons in the tray. Click the minus to quit them. The above is your problem with battery life not this.
