Re: [apple-iphone] FaceTime - how does it work?
Yes on all questions - they demoed Facetime as having ot be in a call first,
but you don't - you can select a contact from address book and click
"FaceTime" and it initiates. You can also set a favorite on the Phone app
and have it default to a facetime call. Also, if you press the Home button
during FaceTime the voice part of the connection continues just like a
regular phone call so it is actually a work around to having VoIP on iPhone
4 to iPhone 4 on Wifi, in the US it wouldn't matter as they would be mobile
to mobile anyway but it works internationally as well. FaceTime from what I
have tested works on just about any basic broadband connection, I have had
FT calls from people in flight using the airline WiFi, others in Starbucks,
Mcdonalds, etc just as tests - it is a pretty solid network and protocol - I
can't wait to see what others do with the 'open standard'...
