You can try Overdrive Media Console which my library uses to lend ebooks and
audio books. Their format is ADE. I haven't read any books on it yet but I
have requested a couple of books from the library.
If you find any other apps that let you use ADE's, let us know.
Thanks,
Jean

Yeah for Nada mentioning the Library. OK so in case you can't tell I work at a
Library and I order materials. We provide a service called OverDrive and as of
a few weeks ago patrons can download EPUB formatted books but not pdf. I can
download through computer or directly to my phone with library card and PIN. I
am a big sudiobook listener and I can download both WMA and MP3 formats to my
computer. When I transfer a WMA audiobook to my computer iTunes converts it
automatically to MP3. I can download MP3 books directly to my phone. We offer
over 25,000 titles of audio and eBooks and I can use over 17,00 of the items on
my phone.Free books and free app/ Yes there is an app to do this directly to
the phone

What application did you use to download the book? Not all formats can be
transferred or read on an iPhone.
I know that the Adobe Digital Editions that I bought of ASME Standards will only
work on the computer that they were first downloaded to, as they have a possible
extra layer of license protection.
And that you have to use a Adobe Digital Editions application to read them.
I borrow digital books from my local county library. Some of the WMA versions
will transfer to an iPod formatted for Windows and others will not transfer to
an iPod, period by the choice of the publisher and version of license protection
used on the book.
You will have to check the permissions you have on the book and if there is a
Adobe Digital Editions application for iPod/ iPhone. Go back to the site where
you downloaded it from and read the permissions you were granted for the
download. Sadly a quick check of the App Store, does not reveille an app for
that.

Humm... how do you transfer the WMA's over to your phone? My library also have
Overdrive, I have the app and the desktop component. I have stopped getting any
other format than MP3 as I can't transfer anything except MP3 over to my phone.
The WMA's have DRM and itunes can't convert it, unless I'm doing something
wrong.

Re: iPhone as a Book Reader VS Overdrive

The original poster's question was about Adobe Digital Editions. The thread has been stolen, so I changed the Subject.
I use Overdrive to borrow books from my library, also. Sadly mine has a minimum of MP3 books and a majority of WMV. And although, Vince Flynn's books are WMV, they can not be transferred to iPods formatted for either Windows or Mac.
To move a WMV, I had to burn a CD while booted into Window, and then switch to Mac OS X and let iTunes import the discs. What a pain in the behind!

Debbie,
Thanks for mentioning it downloading directly to your iPhone. I forgot I had the iPhone app for Overdrive. I was thinking you couldn't down load directly to it.
Will it convert WMV so you can install the books onto a Mac formatted iPhone?

There is a cheat for your problem.
While in a message with the keyboard showing up, back out of the message string from that person (you will be in the listing of all of your text messages starting with last read) and then go back in. The keyboard will be gone until you touch the text entry box.

Google mail on iPhone
Posted by: "Norma Steele" noearthspam@gmail.com nosteele

I have a Google mail account set up on my iPhone 4 but need some help with
mail retrieval. Right now it downloads mail from all my different email
accounts (Google and non-Google providers) as soon as I open the mail app.
What I would like it to do is not automatically download all my mail when
the mail app is opened but would like to pick and choose which email
accounts I want to check at that particular moment.
I can't seem to figure out how to do that. Will someone kindly point me
towards the right direction?

If it is set to manual and turned on, I am fairly certain even 4.2 continues
to check all accounts as soon as you launch the mail app. The "Manual"
setting only keeps it from checking in the background, the iPhone thinks as
soon as you open the mail app you want to know if you have mail in any
account and checks them all...

Go to your "settings" on your phone, then go to "Networking" the 4th button down is "Internet Tethering" Just plug your phone in like you are going to sink with iTunes. You may want to set iTunes so that you do not loose time sinking every time you Tether.

Is it even worth doing an app for my music web site.
Posted by: "larrycarta" larrycarta@yahoo.com larrycarta
Wed Dec 22, 2010 3:08 am (PST)
I asked yesterday about help in making an app for my music website/blog.I think about I might have put the cart before the horse.
Should I even be considering this? It would be a free app. Just to help drum up interest for the website. It's called 'Cool Album of the Day.'
We've featured over 230 albums since we started. We want to do it like the website were you can search the albums by genre, by year or by decade or by categories like Metal,Country-Rock, Rock and Roll Hall of Famers etc.
I do know that there is some kind of ap called 'Shoes of the Day' or something like that doing well so we figure why not!
Please check out my site and let me know what you think.
