It would seem the cables should be identical. However, when I used my iPhone
cable on my new iPad, the syncing was sometimes erratic. Then when I tried
to download my music files from iTunes, it simply wouldn't download -- even
after several attempts. I then tried the iPad cable and, voila, it synced
perfectly. Weird!!

Weird indeed.
I've been syncing my iPod Touch (2nd gen), iPad, & iPhone4 all using the sync
cables that came with my iPODs from 3-4 years ago, with no problems.

I know that I have different results using the cables interchanged. Possibly there were other factors involved that effected my syncs. My husband is an electrical engineer and is usually right, swears there is no difference and that even the chargers can be interchanged.

Thanks for all the replies.

The various ipod/phone chargers, maybe. But the iPAD (wall-)charger is
bigger-- delivers more juice -- & that one does make a difference; you can
use the iPAD charger for the iPOD & iPHONE though. The iphone charger (or
the syncing cable hooked up to my laptop) will eventually charge the ipad,
though very slowly & with the charge-display saying "not charging".

There's a list view in iBooks. I was going to go into detail but I just opened the app and found--nothing on my shelves. No PDFs, not even Pooh. Good thing I switched to GoodReader a couple of months ago. It does a better job of organizing and displaying PDFs than iBooks anyway.

If you have occasion to open PDFs with large, complex graphics pages, may I recommend TransitMaps. It stores them in a tiled form that opens and navigates fast. The LA Metro map used to crash ReaddleDocs, and iBooks wasn't real happy with it either. TransitMaps makes it a pleasure to use.

I am really missing my GPS application (Route 66) in my I phone.

Anyone has an idea about such a GPS application compatible with I phone 4.

iOS 4.2 bugs: Disappearing Folders

Posted by: "Brent" flapdoodle@gmail.com   flapdoodle44

Sent to you by Brent via Google Reader: iOS 4.2 bugs: Disappearing
Folders via TiPb - The #1 iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch blog by Georgia
on 12/1/10

Disappearing Folders have been tormenting iPhone and iPod touch users
since iOS 4 came out in June but now that iOs 4.2.1 is out for iPad,
the disappearing Folder bug is out with it. Here's the gist — you have
spend minutes if not hours organizing your countless applications into
Folders only to come back at some time in the future to see one or more
folders gone and your apps exploded back across your Home Screen.

We'll go over the details and offer some potential fixes after the
break!

First let me just point out that it's more than losing your Folders
that makes this bug so insufferable — it's losing the time it took to
make those Folders and the time it takes to search out the apps that
were in them (if you had more than would fit on the 11 Home Screen
pages without Folders, some might even have been bumped into invisible
space and be a nightmare to find) and make the Folder again. Yes,
re-Foldering is infuriating.

Since it's been around for several months and is is still around after
iOS 4.1 and iOS 4.2 it's hard to know the cause. Some have experienced
it after updating to a new version of iTunes, others after updating
their applications on-device or doing hard resets. I have had this
happen to me without updating iTunes or my apps, so who knows? (Maybe
Apple should add a "Folders, re-Assemble!" button in the next update?)

Painthead from Apple Discussions posted a possible fix.

Update all your applications, move them into folders and then sync your
iPhone/iPad.

If you've had this bug happen to you let us know in comments, and if
that fix, or any other fix you've tried, has solved the problem for you
let us know that as well.

Thanks for posting this solution. Hope it works, will pass it on to my husband. He spent some time organizing his apps on his iPad and was frustrated when they jumped out. The same thing happened to me the first time I organized my apps, but just redid it using iTunes and for some reason worked for me (possibly I had updated my apps can't remember).

Several people wrote in yesterday or the day before about the Mac Fuse promotion. Supposedly one could get it for free through 12/1. I downloaded it and, like the others, found no way to get a free authorization number as promised. I wrote to support and was referred to a page... which was nothing more than there products page. I wrote back asking what I was missing, and received this reply:

Well, that's support for you. Whether this was a bait and switch tactic, an honest mistake, or something else, I do not know. But I've removed the program from my Mac and won't be bothering with this company any further. When someone offers something, I think they should facilitate your taking them up on the offer. I will, however, check out iPhone Explorer as suggested, if it's Mac compatible. I will say that Graciela was certainly timely in her responses, if not particularly helpful.

I am a little confused! On November 30th I downloaded and installed the Mac OSX version. There was no place on the splash screen to install the serial number as on Windows version. I checked in the "About Phone Disk" and it said registered. To Make sure I sent an email to support and was answered today saying "You will need to purchase the serial number to use it." He then suggested another freeware program that he said was similar. Why offer a free serial then renege on the offer? Not a big deal, just not right.
