I bought the WiFi version also not because I couldn't wait but because of my experience with 3G on LI and Northern NJ. I have had so much trouble with dropped calls, no cell service available or sporadic service that I thought it would not be worth the added expense. I even went to the local ATT dealer in NJ about the mini-cell tower for purchase but he said it was not available as yet. He said that it was available in NY but I haven't had a chance to check it out. He said that I probably wouldn't need it in LI if I was close to an ATT store since he said they try to have better service around their stores. I told him my house on LI is only 3 blocks from the ATT store and I have the same problems with 3G.
I have Cablevision for my internet service and I have found many public wifi areas on major and minor roads in LI and NJ. I was concerned about the lack of the GPS chip on a WiFi only iPad but I have found that I get reasonable good location info from the triangulation of the WiFi on my iPad.
I love the iPad and it accompanies me all day - it is nice to have a ready computer at my side. I have used it for watching movies on Netflix, and TV on Slingbox and the ABC app with really good results. It is nice to have access on this when I am traveling and staying at a motel. I am planning a trip to Europe and this will be the first time I will not be taking my laptop and will be relying on my iPad. I read a review recently in the newspaper (I think NY Times) of a traveler doing the same with good results. Does anyone have any suggests for a good and safe AC converter for European usage?
I love the apps Good Reader for documents which I email back and forth. I do miss a printing ability although I have the Print n Share app which has limited printing ability. I use my iPad as my principle source of emails since I now have all three of my email accounts joined on it.
I love the Kindle app which I use all the time for iBooks (the only thing I miss is the default dictionary in the Kindle itself). I have not purchased books on the iBook app after reading a review that spoke about the limitations that the iBooks app places on books as compared to the Kindle app.
I use the Bloomberg app for financial info and I find it great for maintaining info on my portfolio. I use the NY Times, AP, USA Today, News Pro from Reuters for instant news and the Weather Channel Max+ for its weather maps. I love the new Beat the Traffic app which I have found very useful for commutes from NJ to LI and back.
I also have to admit that the iPad is not work only - I love playing games on the iPad especially Luxor, Chuzzle, and Angry Birds (iPhone version which works great doubled).
I guess I love the iPad!!!
Vinny

Not to mention GPS - even if you never use the 3G data, having GPS available
would be great - if they had come out at the same time I would have gotten
the 3G version but I wasn't going to wait an extra month. I had planned to
return or sell my WiFi model and very nice Sales Rep at Apple even offered
to waive the 10% restocking fee if I ordered with the 3G model at the same
time I was issued a Return Authorization (within the 14 day window and would
have to pay for shipping back) but I was hit by an uninsured driver and had
some other things comes up so I didn't have an extra $130 (plus tax and
shipping) just to get GPS but I will definitely get the 3G 2nd Generation.
