Verizon has never failed me - each carrier has a coverage map, I would look
at each one in the areas you need coverage. I am not sure what you are
willing to spend / give up but I know quite a few people who have their
iPhone as their primary phone but do keep an 'el cheapo' pre-paid Verizon or
Sprint (CDMA) phone for when they are traveling in parts of the US with poor
AT&T coverage (phones are typically $20-$50 and they buy maybe a $20
'refill' card once every few months).
