I have noticed when Ive had to restore my phone, text message threads do backup, and data in your apps is also backed up when you sync. I also find that I change something in contacts at least once a week - either I add a contact or I add information about a contact. I would want this information synced in a reasonable time frame.

An example of data: I use LoseIt. Its a program that keeps track of what I eat - by meal, and how much exercise I do -by activity. It keeps track by day and counts my calorie intake and burn off. This is all backed up when I sync. I can go back almost a year now with data. Never syncing and having a catastrophic failure would delete all of this historic data. Not something I would like to miss and definitely couldn't recreate.

Subject: [apple-iphone] iPhone Sync

If I have no updates, songs, Movies. new apps from the last time I synced my phone to my computer (ONE MONTH AGO). Is it necessary to sync the phone? I have a friend that bought the 3GS and he does not have the software on his desktop. He has never synced his phone. Is the sole purpose for syncing the phone to have same information on computer if you lose your phone you will still have the information to put on your new phone.

Thank you,
Sue
