Consider the age of your car.... I have a car charger purchased from the Apple store - works perfectly in my 2010 car, doesn't work at all in my 1999 beater.    At first I thought it was a problem with the power source in the old car, but the old car charges other electronics and other phones perfectly, just not the iPhone.
