there are several golf gps applications. i use the "golflogix". it plots several points of the course though you have to subscribe in its website to get maps.

I have no idea what App you are using but I suspect that you are using either 3G or Edge to gather information about the course, I would be surprised if all the course information is stored on your iPhone.
