So since I have downloaded my apps through my iPhone. Do I need to "back up" my apps or will I be OK. I have not used my computer at all. I have just downloaded all my apps right from the app store.

You can't - once you run the upgrade, it will wipe the Apps from the iPhone
and resync with your library unless you have the username & password that
they were purchased under and use the "Transfer Purchases" to copy them to
your computer / iTunes before backing up and updating.
How do you sync now without losing them?
