OK, try this. With iPhoto closed, go to Home* > Library > Preferences and
drag com.apple.iPhoto.
iPhoto does not start up automatically, start it manually. Is it seeing the
iPhone now? If yes, trash the plist file on the Desktop; if not, close
iPhoto and reinstate the plist file (this contains your iPhoto preferences)
*Home is your top-level folder, the one with the house icon.
