7TH CONFERENCE ON
INTERNATIONAL TAXATION AND TRANSFER PRICING
INTERNATIONAL FISCAL ASSOCIATON – NETHERLANDS:
International Fiscal Association (IFA) is a leading non-governmental international organization dealing with tax matters since 1938. It comprises tax-payers, their advisers, government officials and university professors and is a unique forum for discussing international tax issues. It's headquarter is in the Netherlands and has over 12,000 members worldwide, from 100 countries, with 59 National Branches. IFA is engaged in the study of International taxation through scientific research, holding of congresses, publications of its cahiers and other materials and co-operation with other like minded organizations.
OBJECTIVE OF IFA:
Along with the increasing internationalization of the world's economies, international tax issues have become more numerous and of greater importance. Since the end of the second World War IFA has played an essential role both in the development of certain principles of international taxation and in providing possible solutions to problems arising in their practical implementation. It has been able to do so because its membership consists of high level representatives from both the private and the public sectors, including the Courts, Universities and international governmental and non-governmental organizations and because the Association has maintained over the years high standards in its debates and conclusions. Thus IFA has offered the necessary forum to experts belonging to different sectors of society, where opinions on topics of international taxation can be exchanged with respect for each other's background and responsibilities.
INTERNATIONAL FISCAL ASSOCIATON – INDIA BRANCH:
The India Branch of IFA was established in 1983, and is registered under the Societies Registration Act and it has over 400 members. The IFA India Branch includes as its members the Central Board of Direct Taxes, the National Institute of Public Finance and Policy and the Reserve Bank of India. Representatives from public and private sector undertakings and eminent tax professionals and executives are also part of IFA India Branch. The branch has formed 3 chapters in the Western, Northern and Southern regions.
Western Region Chapter was formed in 1998 and it has over 200 members. The Ahmedabad Sub Chapter of Western Region Chapter of IFA – India Branch was set up on 15th June, 2002.
THE CONFERENCE:
The Indian economy has become an integral part of the international business community and has started adopting and following the international business practices. Since the process of globalization has started, India has secured the acceptable position in the international global village. India is considered to be one of the growth oriented economy. With the liberalization of the trade restrictions because of the international commitments, the international taxation has become more relevant because tax is a cost, which has an impact on local price of goods and services along with international trade. The growth of service sector is tremendous. The department has also started taking aggressive position on interpretation of the provisions relating to International Tax and Transfer pricing. The Judiciary has also started taking note of the International Tax issues. This has raised complex issues on the international taxation.
The implications of the Transfer Pricing, particularly after the assessment of T.P.Reports and decisions of the Judiciary have raised several issues. The department has also started applying certain global methodologies and concepts.
