Most (all?) of the programs will require an internet connection somewhere to
transfer anything (eg word docs) that itunes doesn't sync. Dropbox is good
for having files on the iphone but you'll need internet access to load them
from the computer to the dropbox service so that you can see them on the
iphone.
Or try using googledocs.
