should be returning to states in few days. been here a week and this
is how it worked out.

iPhone on wifi worked well. email and data were very good via wifi.

airplane mode has been on since I go here.

found few to none free wifi spots. had to buy time every where I was.

still cheaper than roaming.

used skype app. marginal quality. don't think it was iPhone issue but
Internet connectivity.

skype saved me literally hundreds of dollars in talk fees

best ability for talking was magic Jack. people thought i was 'down
the block' when I made calls on that.

also very inexpensive.

I used skype to call into my US cell to retrieve messages. but have no
way of knowing if I received a text in US.

locals here say they get unlocked phones and change sim cards when
they go back and forth to states.

have not seen that on an iPhone. but almost everyone has a blackberry.
