My issue is more mysterious, it's not a connection issue caused by a case or bumper. I have tried at least 5 different lighter charger plugs, some with a USB connection, some with an integrated 10 pin connector. Some charge the iPhone4, some don't. All work with a classic iPod. So, there must be a difference. I have not looked closely enough at the chargers. Perhaps they have different amperage ratings or something. All I know is that the charger that worked with my 3G doesn't work with iPhone4.
