It probably won't fit your 3GS, but you can get a Mophie Juicebox that was who came up with the idea that fits the 3GS. Mili's battery and connector should work, if you could connect them.

Shape has been the biggest problem with compatibility. The charging devices that worked with the earlier iDevices that could be charged by FW will not work directly with the current iDevices. The iPad needs more volts to charge than all prior iDevices.

So as far as compatibility, your guess is as good as mine.
