Depending on who helps you at the AT&T store or Apple store you can explain
to them the situation and they will not activate it. They don't 'have' to
obviously as I and millions of others order online and have them shipped to
our homes and offices and activate whenever we have time (which on launch
day is 5 seconds after it comes off the delivery truck but could be a day,
week, or month later).
